"US will lose war", says former UN inspector
March 26 2003 at 06:42PM
Lisbon - The United States does not have the military means to take over Baghdad and will lose the war against Iraq, former United Nations weapons inspector Scott Ritter said.
"The United States is going to leave Iraq with its tail between its legs, defeated. It is a war we can not win," he told private radio TSF in an interview broadcast here Tuesday evening.
"We do not have the military means to take over Baghdad and for this reason I believe the defeat of the United States in this war is inevitable," he said.
"Every time we confront Iraqi troops we may win some tactical battles, as we did for ten years in Vietnam but we will not be able to win this war, which in my opinion is already lost," Ritter added.
'It is a war we can not win' Stiffening Iraqi resistance as US-led forces close in on Baghdad have prompted questions about the strategy to use precision air power and a smaller, fast moving ground force to topple Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
Some military analysts have said there are not enough allied troops in Iraq to take control of Baghdad, where Saddam Hussein's elite troops are said to be concentrated, and that the planning of the war was overly optimistic.
But British Prime Minister Tony Blair told parliament Wednesday the United States and Britain believe they have "sufficient forces" in Iraq and London was not planning to send reinforcements to the country at this stage.
A combination of bad weather and heavy fighting in central Iraq has slowed the advance of coalition troops marching on Baghdad.
Ritter resigned in August 1998 after accusing both Washington and the United Nations of not doing enough to support the weapons inspectors.
Since leaving the UN weapons inspectors team he has become an outspoken critic of US policies towards Iraq. - Sapa-AFP

At first I thought he was being threatened by Saddam, now I just think he is an anti American scumbag, who should rot in hell.

Remember, though, this campaign cannot officially be considered a spectacular success unless and until Maureen Dowd declares our military status a "quagmire". Preferably of "Vietnam" proportions and prospects. If the non-Douglasboinked shrew includes some gratuitous reference to a weapons system or military related event (i.e. SAR, AH-64 Apache, Force Recon, JDAM, warthog, HUD) she ordered some lackey to find to demonstrate her expertise and mastery of all things in war and peace - the transition Coalition goverment is in Baghdad, and the process of organizing a political and economic reconstruction is well underway.
If she mentions Thomas Friedman, our troops are 30 miles outside Tehran and moving wit' a quickness.

Isn't that son of a b*tch in prison yet. I know, somewhere there is a con waiting for his male order bride.
Some day, b*tchboys like Ritter are going to get what they deserve and it can't happen soon enough.

Gramps, I just have to believe that all the approaches, options, resources, risks, contingencies and worst-case scenarios involved in the seizure and securing of Baghdad have been meticulously studied and game planned.
The guys with stars on their shoulders strategizing in Qatar weren't recruited from the parking lot of a suburban paint-ball range. They know about Tet, they were grumbling live and real time in VietNam and Beirut, they understand the lessons of Warsaw, Leningrad and Wounded Knee, they lived Mogadishu, they lived Port au Prince and Panama City and the Brits know the lessons of Belfast and understand the dynmaics of the Arab psyche and response to power projections very well.
Could they hustle up a Burger King date on the internet with a 14 year old who "HATES HER PARENTS to the max!" That may be outside the swing zone of Rummy, the Joint Chiefs and General Franks and his operational command. That's special, luring 14 year old girls for romance and courtship. That's pure Ritter ... when it's not pure Buttafuco.
We aren't going to get 10 miles outside Baghdad and call "the T" and huddle ... "ok, now what? What are the ways the 'Queen' piece can move again?"

Arne, you posted two paragraphs that need to be repeated and repeated for the whiners/moaners/doubters and maybe 5th columnists who want us to lose in Iraq:

Arne, right now we have a couple of Freepers who sound like Scott Ritter on the thread below. Maybe you would like to join in for awhile with your common sense and terrible sens of humor that rivals my dark humor!:)

Reactivate the perv perp, court marshall his sorry @$$, and let him spend a good long time in Levenworth thinking about how important the concepts of loyalty and honesty are to the Corps. How this piece of dog excriment ever became a Marine is a mystery to me.
To: anymouse
Re Ritter. The corp had him figured out and blocked his promotions.
When he tried to get a job at the CIA, he flunked the lie detector test (now we know the reasons why). Apparently some of his CO's and peers during his vetting process were not to kind to him.
The corp has so few bad apples, don't let this one bend you out of shape!

Like most inspectors, he probably has had his life or that of his family or friend's threatened. Are you an apologist for Ritter ?
Whether he has been threatened is irrelevant; other inspectors have not turned traitor and become talking heads for Saddam. You are making excuses for him.
