how about the 1,000 vehicle column coming down from Baghdad? has anything been done about that one?

Not till they get further from civilians.

Special Forces soldier: "Captain, I have cutoff the last fiber cable from Baghdad to Basra."

Captain: "Can you tap the Basra side of that fiber link with your sink kit?"

"Yes, Sir!"

Captain: "How's your Arabic?"

"Rusty, sir."

Captain: "Well, don't spend much time on it, just tap it and shout something stupid like: Saddam commands all Ba'athists in Basra to leave their urban cover and race out on the open highway tomorrow and Noon."

...Later...

Fox News: "A convoy of Iraqi armor was spotted racing away from Basra at Noon today, followed by fist fights among allied fighter pilots for who got the right to kill all of the easy targets..."

Read further in my posting, I wonder if his command and control prepared for the contingency of his demise, or if he is such a huge mythological figure, that they never thought of carrying on, without his orders.

I don't know, I keep waiting to hear that it was all a trick, somehow. Maybe they filled the trucks with children or troops who wanted to surrender.

Could they have been planning to try to cross over into Iran?

"If I were an Iraqi soldier, I guess I would at least try to go out in flames."

LOL! I think that is exactly what they are. Scott Ritter said we can't win this war. Sounds to me like there are a bunch of crispy RITTERS out there!

As W.C. Fields observed while looking at an automobile wreck, "The resale value of those vehicles will be nil.".

Do you think that the Iraqi strategy was this:

(1) Wait quietly for coalition forces to get past Basra

(2) Send forces out from Baghdad and Basra simultaneously as soon as the coalition forces are in the open and far from Umm Qasr and their supply lines

(3) Close in on coalition forces in a pincer movement?

It seems like that was their strategy as soon as the sandstorm left a hole in coalition air support.

If so, their first big move may just have been decisively crushed.

If this was in obedience to orders from Saddam, his orders make about as much sense as those of old Adolf coming out of the bunker.
