(CBS) An American soldier is among three suspects being held in connection with a grenade and small-arms attack that injured at least 16 U.S. soldiers at Camp Pennsylvania in northern Kuwait, reports CBS News Correspondent Mark Strassman, who is on the scene with the Army's 101st Airborne Division.

Eleven of the injured were hurt so seriously they had to be choppered out of the camp.

Strassmann said three grenades were rolled into three officers' tents at the camp. When officers ran from the tents, they were hit by small arms fire.

Three suspects were being held for questioning: two Kuwaitis who served as translators and an American soldier described as an engineering sergeant.

The American was found injured and hiding in a bunker. Asked if he was hurt throwing a grenade, Strassman reports the soldier replied, "Yes."

Separately, Strassmann reported, an Iraqi rocket fired at U.S. forces in Kuwait was destroyed by Patriot missiles launched from nearby Camp New Jersey.

The attacks on U.S. troops came as the American assault on Iraq gained steam. American and British forces besieged the southern city of Basra and pounded Baghdad with impunity.

Coalition ground forces crossed the Euphrates River and were within 150 miles of the capital. They’re still meeting only light resistance, with many Iraqi troops surrendering or simply leaving the battlefield.

But six divisions of the Republican Guard, Saddam's best and most loyal soldiers, were still in the way.

This verse of the Qur’an refers to the incident when 'Ammar bin Yasir (May Allah be pleased with both) had to utter some words against Islam to save himself from the Quraishite infidels.

The Qur'an clearly allows hiding one 's true faith when one is in danger of one's life. This rule is called taqiyah.

Question 1: What is the meaning of "Taqiyah"?
Answer: Its literal meaning is to safeguard; to defend; to fear; piety (because it saves one from the displeasure of Allah).

Question 2: What is its significance in Islamic termi­nology?
Answer: In Islamic terminology it means "to save life, honour. or property (either one's own or of other be­lievers) by hiding one's belief or religion".

I imagine the same rule would apply for a Muslim who hides his jihad sympathies.

Why would any black person convert to Islam (and more than half of muslims in the U.S. are converted blacks) if they didn't follow the teachings of Farrakhan and Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammad?

Your question is like asking why would someone become a Baptist if they didn't follow the teachings of the Pope, and Rev. Moon!

If half of all American muslims are black, then there are at least 1 million black muslims. Farrakhan's NOI has less than 100,000 members. Do the math! The majority of Muslims(all races) in the USA are not members of the so-called "Black Muslim" Groups. And the majority of black converts join other islamic groups. You asked why would a black person become a muslim, if not to join a racist Black muslim group. Maybe they would convert for the same reason, a white American would. Why have thousands of white Americans become muslims?

In your post you said that you were frightened that there were over 1600 black(racially) muslims in the Armed Forces. All I was doing was pointing out that it is incorrect to assume that they are all members of the violent, racist, hate-America crowd.

There are about 2 million Black Muslims, and as you rightly point out, a tiny percentage of those (40,000) belong to Farrakhan's Nation of Islam.

I don't have the numbers on white converts, but assuming 2 million is correct, that means slightly more than 6% of Blacks in the US are Muslim. This is an incredibly high number if you translated that 6% to the White polulation, which would result in 12 MILLION White muslims.

Obviously, there is a reason Islam attracts Blacks at greatly larger percentages than whites.

Rush Limbaugh remarked about this today, and his answer is correct: run-of-the-mill Black leadership teaches blacks that the US is hostile to them, that Whites are racists, and via Jackson, Sharpton, et. al. that Jews are somehow to blame for a lot of problems. The teachings of Farrakhan, Malcolm X and the rest are just another step in the logical direction Black leadership is heading.

The question remains: if there are 1,600 Black Muslims in the US army, then what we saw at Fort Penn is likely to happen again.
