To All Posters of Articles, News, and Announcements, etc:
For the duration of the war on Iraq, we would like to reserve the "Breaking News" category for news items that are pertaining to truly breaking news stories. Please post other news stories to Front Page, Editorial, Extended, or News categories as appropriate.
For the time being, please post announcements or news of rallies, chapter events, radio shows, TV shows and other items that are normally allowed in breaking news to Activism, Announcements, Free Republic, News, State categories, etc., as appropriate.
Please try to keep vanity posts or personal posts to a minimum or post them to the appropriate topics in the General Interest forum.
(notice that I did not post this announcement in breaking news)
Thanks very much for your continued support in this effort to keep our news forum focused on the news and for making Free Republic the premier conservative news forum on the planet.
Jim

My flag was up before 911! We have been flying one for 7 years daily. God bless our troops!
Put a light with a timer on it and you never have to take it down!

I, for one, would like to see this policy continued even AFTER the war.
I think Breaking News is getting too cluttered with the "FREEP Barney Frank in Wichita" posts.
Why not save it for actual "Breaking News"?
Respectfully,

Let me get this straight. Photographs of Bill Clinton coupled with a prong-horned sheep would or would not qualify for BREAKING NEWS?

I, for one, would like to see this policy continued even AFTER the war. I'll second that. The URGENT PRAYER REQUEST threads about somebody's cousin going to a gynocologist appointment, sick dog, flat tire, or any number of insignificant emergencies are getting a bit annoying.

For the time being, please post announcements or news of rallies, chapter events, radio shows, TV shows and other items that are normally allowed in breaking news to Activism, Announcements, Free Republic, News, State categories, etc., as appropriate. Can we PLEEEEZ continue this policy AFTER the war?
IMO there are too many "FREEP Tom Dashle At Outback Steakhouse in Minot, North Dakota!!!" and "Ann Coulter on KMOX Live!!!!!" posts in the "BREAKING NEWS" sidebar.
What makes these events 'Breaking News'?
Why not offer a sidebar dedicated to this and allow real news to dominate the 'Breaking News' sidebar?
Respectlully,
11EoM

I agree. It is so frustrating to have to sort thru all kinds of "stuff" to get to the real news of the day.
Kind of like sorting through the pile of junk mail to find that rebate check you were expecting.

I've noticed tonight that we continue to pull threads that attack administration policy and our administration.
An article suggesting Rummy overrode the military, general staff reccomendations due to his egomaniacal personality was just pulled. I think it was a mistake.
Articles like this are the current corrosive mantra but they are easily and logically debunked.
I suggest that replys which debunk these tantrums are instructive to the thousands lurking on this forum. We face these criticisms daily. Why not disarm them before they get traction.

I surrender.
As Rummy said: "As individuals you only see one tiny slice of the pie."
Thanks.
