This past weekend I was thrilled to read the accounts here on FR of all the rallies, large and small, that my hardy fellow FReepers organized or participated in across the country.
It was a great effort and you made a difference.
At a bare minimum, these "Support Our Troops" rallies gave a morale boost to law enforcement officers on the scene and to our fellow citizens who came in contact with us. While the rallies were not the main story, our message was picked up and reported on in various media outlets, letting families of servicemembers know that patriotic Americans are making their voices heard above the din of the so-called "anti-war" protesters.
The leftist organizations are drawing on a forty-year head start of demonstrating and poisoning the minds of young people with anti-Americanism, hence their ability to bring out large crowds without much effort.
While their success in changing the viewpoints of rational people and the adults in the White House about defending America from terrorists and rogue regimes with weapons of mass destruction is doubtful, they are giving aid and comfort to our enemies and giving them great fodder for propaganda.
I recognize public protesting is not a full-time calling for conservatives. Most of us have families, jobs, studies and other productive things in our lives that we'd rather do on the weekends than go stand outside and hold a sign. However, when the issue is of critical importance we do come out in large numbers--impeachment, the Gore Wars, gun rights and pro-life marches for example.
I believe that this is one of those critical moments when we need to take to the streets.
FReepers have been doing a good job getting out and countering the leftists. Now we need to wage a campaign to convince our fellow patriotic citizens to join us in public demonstrations of support for our troops and the efforts to rid Saddam Hussein's regime of WMD and the Iraqi people of Saddam Hussein.
Freepers who belong to veterans groups, church groups, gun-rights groups, PTAs, home-school groups, colleges, high schools, unions, book clubs, quilting circles, etc., can help to spread the word by actively communicating the need to take it to the streets, and guiding these folks to the rallies that FReepers are organizing.
It is imperative that the anti-American left does not go unanswered like they were during Vietnam. Many FReeper veterans of that era can testify to the destructive influence that the left had back then at home and abroad. Our soldiers were abused at home and their enemy on the battlefield was emboldened. We must not allow that to happen again.
On Saturday, March 1st, the DC Chapter of Free Republic will be holding The Patriots Rally for America IV, from 11am until 3pm on the grounds of the Washington Monument. We have a permit for the Sylvan Theater, which is an excellent venue as it has a professional covered outdoor stage and a large field that can hold thousands of people.
We are asking our fellow FReepers to make the sacrifice of time and effort to come to our nation's capital that day to send a message of support to our troops and a message of resolve to our enemies abroad (and on the homefront.)
In addition to being there, any assistance you can provide - such as: distributing flyers, calling talk radio shows, contacting your local media, informing your families, friends, co-workers and email chains - will help immensely.
Members of the DC Chapter will be doing all we can here, but we need your help.
We have already received commitments from several speakers and are working with local College Republican groups and others to get the word out here.
If you are in the DC area and would like to help please contact me, Angelwood or Kristinn.
We will be making a formal announcement about the rally soon.

We're knee deep in snow right now throughout the DC metro area, but hopefully the warmer weather will be back in time for our March 1 Patriots Rally.
The number of counter rallies organized or attended by FReepers across the country this past weekend was wonderful. The pictures of our events show enthusiastic people who love America and really support the men and women in our armed forces who are defending our freedom.
Unfortunately, we can't let our defenses down and take time off right now. The organizers from IAC/ANSWER and United for Peace and Justice have a machine in place (kind of like the DNC and the unions) and have organized another march on DC which they call the CONVERGENCE. Their professional signs and posters and advertising are already done. The buses are ready to bring the usual contingent of protesters to the nation's capital again. They have permitted a large number of areas so they can have a bigger presence in town and can use them as staging areas to spread their march out along a longer route.
It is imperative that people come out in large numbers to counter the anti-American, anti-war propaganda of the communist/socialist backed IAC/ANSWER and affiliated groups. It is imperative that people come out in large numbers to SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. The troops need to see that fellow Americans are standing up for them and fully support what they are doing. Please try to attend this rally or one closer to your home and encourage others to take it to the streets to support our country, our commander-in-chief and the men and women fighting the war on terrorism on our behalf.

L.A. Freepers could return to the Wilshire and Veteran locale where the 2000 election rallies were held. No doubt our raggedy anti-America pals with their drums, etc., would show up, but we had great success with our rallies back in 2000.
Anybody up for it in March??????
To: Mudboy Slim
Wish I was close to D.C.
Will be visiting Sante Fe, NM on that day.
We need to get bumper stickers made saying "WE SUPPORT OUR PRESIDENT, AND WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS"

You know, I found it, uh "interesting" that the so-called peace rallies were covered a great deal by the media, but the counter-protests weren't even mentioned. (If they were, it was some little snippet sandwiched somewhere.)

Terrific! That's the spirit. We have our work cut out for us, but this past weekend's pro-America rallies, all organized on-the-fly, across the US, give me reason to be optimistic.
A rally can be as simple as one man standing outside a military base holding an "I Support Our Troops" sign (as TRteamer did in Wyoming last week) - or as elaborate as the imagination allows. The important thing is that we, each and all of us, stand up and publicly show our support for our troops.
Let's take it to the streets, and take the streets back from the leftists.

Now there's the "can-do" attitude I like to see!
To everybody:
If you can't get to DC, start getting your local folks lined up now, and meet at a busy intersection in your town on March 1. Don't forget the "Honk if you support our troops" signs.

You're right. I checked and all the posters say "Converge on the White House." I don't think they'll get very close, though. The main area where they will be congregating will be on the Mall between 3rd and 7th Streets near the Capitol building.

See if you can find some Santa Fe FReepers who want to go out on March 1 and do some pro-America streetcorner lobbying.
Thanks for the ping!

Also, contact your local TV and radio stations and fax the news desks of the area newspapers. Try to call in to local talk radio and mention the rally on air. A lot of extra people came to our rallies because they heard an announcement on the radio.

A ping! (with a self-serving element)
If you can, please take a look at this thread and send an e-mail to the President!
Also, be aware...at a certain 'rat site, there is some discussion of trying to infiltrate the rally with counter-demonstraters.

The fact that a protest of thousands is getting coverage is not out of the ordinary, but that a counter-protest of less than a hundred get coverage at all is noteworthy.
I believe that there are members of the media who are looking for us, and for our message of support; so we need to be there. They will cover us, if we come out. Some media won't cover us, no matter what. And for them - we need to make it very difficult, or impossible, to ignore us. (a la the old days, remember "She's standing on a box!")
