Not surprising, but what "reason" did they give for refusing?Good question. Perhaps Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Ballart (sp?) has something on record. I'll check.

"He's smart, has brains, the dude's a self-made man, for crying out loud! Therefore, Estrada couldn't possibly be Hispanic, since, as every good liberal knows, all Hispanics and blacks are stupid, just as all whites are racists. Genuine people of color are always feeble-minded dim-wits. To be minority is to be slow, dopey, uneducated, simple minded."Well said. I ALWAYS LOVE your two cents. BUMP!!

Nope. The only one that could challenge her is Pataki - and his rating has plummetted below 50% (this assumes Giuliani goes head-to-head against Shumer, or takes a position with Bush). No one else in NY can really challenge her. A sad admission, but a pragmatic one.

They have either moved on to other business or he is imitating the dems LOL

Spent most of my morning on the phone trying to get thru to senator's offices. Nelson of Nebraska is going to vote for Estrada. Graham in Flordia, just off surgery, is not in a postition to give his response. Cannot get Nelson of Florida on the phone. Left a message on machine for Daschle, got many kudos and suggestions thru to the offices of Kyl, Santorum, Hatch. Got thru to staffer of Harry Reid's office-had a good conversation. And it goes on and on. The capitol lines are busy, much redialing today. But I figure that is a good thing.
Mostly I wanted to get to Feinstein and Boxer's offices-no chance. They make me sick.
I find this filibuster offense to the max.
And I am ashamed for the democrats. Very.

I'm hoping that Guiliani will already be in the Senate, having knocked off Shumer in '04.
To: Carolinamom
Sorry I don't think I was clear. My reading of the rule is this.
The filibuster happens when a cloture vote fails and the minority that blocked the cloture vote has to keep talking.
The Republicans won't file a cloture motion because they think that sets a bad precedent....so a real "all night" filibuster won't happen, much to the dismay of freepers etc, unless the Republicans change their strategy and file a cloture petition.

The only one that could challenge her is Pataki - and his rating has plummetted below 50% Agree Giuliani will take Schumer's seat, but I think Pataki can beat Hillary...he's WAY more moderate than she is. She could be painted as an extremist. Anyway, if she runs for Prez, I think its' Pataki's to lose...

Ugh, the Republicans are such fools... I think what you are seeing is the GOP letting the RATS shoot themself in the proverbial foot.
Only the most ardent leftist would want the US Senate filibustering the nomination of a US District Court nominee while the nation is at war with terrorists, nearing war with Iraq, and suffering through a stagnant economy. If mainstream America paid enough attention to the US Senate and saw what the RATS are doing, there would be a backlash of enormous proportions similar (but on a larger scale) to the reaction to the Wellstone "memorial".
Think about it ... at a time when many soccer moms and plain folk have exhausted the supply of duct tape and plastic sheeting at their local Home Depot, do you think they want their elected officials carping on judicial nominees -- or dealing with the threats against our freedoms?

Great columns you write!
Ben Nelson is on right now. Is he speaking Daschlese?
To: mware
...Reid said no to all of them. In effect, they are saying NO to someone that will INTERPRET the law. And because he's a conservative.
Since I heard that Estrada worked for a law firm involved with the Florida election 2000 on Bush's side, they are...
The hypocrisy is abhorrent, imho...
