This may be garbled as I am eating the rather large crow that lives in my hat. My apologies. It has been a long time since I slept.

Dittemore is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. As stated, he didn't grow up within NASA as a HARDWARE guy, he grew up in the Mission Operations environment. I have a big problem with that. But he's a good guy and doing his best.

Columbia is the one orbiter that has not been equiped with docking capability Could they have gotten there and used those rescue pods they used to carry back in the 80's? The ones that looked like bean bags with the person inside? Seems like if they could have gotten there, they could figure a way to transfer. Did they even have an airlock to do an EVA if the needed to? It would have to be between the forward cabin and the space lab. The only other door to the forward cabin is the crew entry door and has no airlock.

I'm just now catching up on the posts on thsi thread but I saw several times people asking about the increased "drag" on the left wing and the FCS trying to compensate. The increased drag indicates the tiles coming off on that side. Read a story this morning that said if the tiles start coming off, it increases the drag on that side. Sorry if someone's already answered this.

I was initially PO'd at the question by the Israeli representative; it seemed unnecessary. But it elicited the response about the remains. Why didn't NASA say that right upfront?

I'm newWelcome. The best real-time news place on the planet. (and a lot of interesting and intelligent people here, too.)

It's the weekend. The average quality of Fox News goes from High during the week to very low on the weekends. I normally listen to Fox a lot during the week but I can not stand them on the weekends...

Thanks for telling me what was going on. I saw him the other night on the PA flight from 9/11 and his comments led me to to start believe cover-up when I didn't think it at all just because of his arrogance and attempts to spin.
Amazing! I thought I was going nuts!
Thanks again!

Why didn't NASA say that right upfront?Probably would have seemed a little macabre...

"What would it have hurt to take one pass for the hubble to focus in on that wing. "
Can hubble focus on something THAT close, moving THAT fast relative to itself? Almost everything it images is literally a zillion times further away.
To: snopercod
I'll tell you why that was ill-advised. Dittomore didn't understand the reason for the question, so he reacted poorly. The reporter wanted to know if there had been a plan to mothball. The next question would have been why? I think that's a valid question. It might have lead to some interesting information.

Sending a prayer that all their questions about the great beyond are being answered right now.

I was sitting here thinking the same thing about Fox this weekend. I vowed to stay away from CNN, but this weekend took me back! Fox has been less than impressive.

Thanks, I was unaware of that.

Why not send up an SR-71 and snap a shot through an up-turned camera? < /obtuseness > You would have to build a new nose for the SR-71 to mount a camera upside down.
One of the Spook agencies has a very powerful telescope/camera mounted in a 757 with a "convertible" top. for taking pics of other peoples satelites.
There is no reason the Huble Telescope couldn't be turned for photos, and by taking photos at different times as the orbits passed you could get the 3D info that NASA says could't be gotten.
The real question is, what to do with a wounded bird?
Abandon it in orbit, hang out at the space station and wait for another shuttle home?

EASY for you to say, from where you sit, NEVER having assumed *any* responsibilty for *large* projects, for others, and for other's lives ... I appreciate your cautious and humble input on this thread _Jim.

Welcome. You have come to a very special place. We have fights and frolics here, but always have a good time doing it.
Thanks to Jim_Robinson for this smoothly-running piece of freedom-loving cyberspace.

Let me ask you a question. Could a spacewalk transfer be accomplished?
