holding it the stupidest penalty in the game, IMO. This is not football not field hockey.
I think college should get rid of it. Keep it in the pros since pro football is so regimented and robotic anyway.

I am partial to Oklahoma v FSU in 1999.

You called it, pal - BIG TIME HOSE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO WAY IN MY 50 SOME ODD YEARS OF WATCHING FOOTBALL WAS THAT A FAIR CALL!!! NOT IN A MILLION CALLS OF THE THAT TYPE.
Pure midwest UPI/AP poll sportswriters/sportsmedia biased officiating we've had to put up with, it seems forever. Michigan, Ohio State - 75-80% of the sportswriters and many officials are from these schools.
It use to be Nebraska was their 'honey pie' team they favored for a long time, but Ohio State always did get the favored calls from all the games I've seen in my years.
That's how they got there this year. They won three games on questionable calls which kept game-winning drives alive.
Pure unadulterated hogshow this time. A good game overall but Ohio State's offense was not impressive. They must have had less offensive yards than Miami. Turnovers killed Miami, especially the two first half interceptions that were hard thrown tipped Dorsey passes which Ohio had the fortune of having some lucky defender right there to intercept. They may not have scored in the first half if it hadn't been for those lucky plays.
They won, but were fortunate and predestined to win and got the 'hail Mary' official call on the last play of the drive that should have ended in their loss. They didn't make the play. The guy was NOT interfered with and he STILL dropped the ball. If he caught it outright, i wouldn't have complained, but he was saved by an official's deliberately biased call IMO.

Show me the reply starting at the beginning of the play, you know, where the Miami player was holding the OSU player after the 5 yd "free-zone". Then we can talk. If you haven't figured it out already, I don't think they Miami player was 'interfering' when the ball arrived, but interference can happen ANYTIME in the recievers route.

Holding....
Pass Interference....
What exactly is "holding-pass interference"?
To: shoedog
My point is really not about who won. Honestly, I haven't watched more that a few minutes of 5-6 games all year. Only watched the 2nd half of this one. I just hate to see the refs blow it at such a critical point. National championship, overtime, unbeaten teams and all. I used to love the NBA, until the officiating went the way of pro wrestling. If these sports don't clean up the officiating, they will continue to loose viewers and fans. I'd say we might get some form of replay because of that blown call. At least for championship games. Anyway, I don't live far from Columbus. Hope they don't burn down our town tonight.

If the penalty occurred at the start of the play, why the LATE flag, well after the play was over?
To: RedWing9
Are you sure the ball was uncatchable?Uncatchable?!
That was a drop AND a bad call.
Poorly played game all-around...Trojans win Mythical Championship.

Miami got hosed. No way was that pass interference in the first overtime. The game should have ended there. It was an Al Gore recount. As much as I wanted Miami to lose, you are correct in your judgement. The game was over. It wasn't pass interference. I would have preferred to see Ohio State win fairly.

I am still fuming about a too far down field call in a Raiders-KC game 8? years ago. This will always be a hot topic. Part of the fun, I think.

Oh, you mean the ref with the glasses? Old 4-eyes deciding the National Championship. He reminded me of the lead in REVENGE of the NERDS.;-)
I didn't care who won until McGahee got hurt, then I started to pull for Miami. What conference were the officials from? I know it wasn't a Big East or Big Ten crew. Anyone know?

Sure it wasn't pass interference, but it was holding before that.

Hey, deuschbag. I'm NOT a Miami fan, but right is right, so stick it in your arrogant ear!!!
To: Physicist
The interference looked like it happened before the ball got there. And the non-Keith commentator got it wrong. Pass interference is in order even if it occurs before the ball is thrown, as long as the ball is eventually thrown and the act occurs more than 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. At least if the rule is the same as in the pros.
Besides which, on Miami's first touchdown drive there was a critical 3rd down completion that was facilitiated by a blatant hold in the backfield that wasn't called.
