The nation's first state law requiring all new handguns to be outfitted with built-in trigger locks will take effect in Maryland tomorrow, a measure gun control advocates predict will save lives but one that has gun dealers fearing for their livelihoods.

It will do so, advocates said, by limiting the sale of handguns to those with an integrated locking system that can limit the use of the weapon to people who hold the key or know the combination.

What a bunch of maroons... Why do they pass an unenforceable law?

"How do you balance saving the life of a child against the prospects that sales might decrease somewhat?" asked Sen. Brian E. Frosh (D-Montgomery), one of the chief sponsors of the measure. "To me, when you look at the balance, it comes out heavily on the side of saving lives."

Triple axel heave alert. "Blue America" is going to really take it in the chops in '04. Go, Liberals!

"This will save lives," said Matt Fenton, president of Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse Inc. "It's the way of the future."

Another victory for the Cult of Victimhood.

Lillian Pubillones Nolan, the Montgomery County chapter director of the Million Mom March, said ..."If this means saving lives, I think responsible gun owners should see it as a minor inconvenience."

It probably won't seem like a minor inconvenience when they are struggling against fear and adrenaline to get the lock off of their gun while some thug is threatening their family with his unlocked gun.

This tool should ask the question "how many innocent lives will locking mechnisms cost and how many criminals will they save?".

I won't hold my breath, intellectual honesty is not a strong point for socialists.

The H&K USP series has them. I don't know if the lock on mine works, as I've never used it. I may still have the key somewhere.

Because they want to drive all the gun dealers bankrupt.

Wasn't it Paris Glendenning who held a press conference showing what a minor inconvenience gun locks are, and it took him a few minutes to get the lock off the gun.

Another serious issue is that the Taurus lock on revolvers (do they have one for the Semi-Autos?) locks the action, so that the hammer can't be cocked. It's about the only safe way that a loaded (Semi-Auto) gun can be locked. I know that a trigger lock on a revolver isn't a safety issue, but to really "safe" a weapon, the action (breech or cylinder) should be locked open, like with a cable lock.

Of course, this makes a weapon completely unusable in an emergency situation for self defense, but saving the lives of the victims of crime has NEVER been important to these people.

All gun-owners from other states should boycott manufacturers of these weapons. It may discourage outfits like Smith and Wesson, who have a history of pandering to political entities which concoct nonesensical laws like this,

Ditto for whatever firm puts a "smart gun" on the market.

Bingo. This law will accomplish precisely what it was always intended to accomplish, and that is to penalize honest people.

Disobey, they will continue to make unconstitutional laws that restrict your ability to defend yourself. Just get used to the idea that they will eventually pass so many laws that we will all be outlaws. It stinks but I don't see how you can demand your rights and be law abiding anymore.

I strongly oppose the continued existance of busybodies with too much time on their hands who compose sentences including the words "I think [insert group of choice] should see it [as I do]."

Anyone take a sideplate off a S&W revolver with the new "security" feature ? I have . Ya don't need a key ya need a screw driver to make the firearm function as designed. And "all" the keys are alike.

I purchased the revolver for my sister based on a good friends sad story . A new TiLite 357 magnum snubby. After I got the darn thing home I noticed what I thought was a scratch or something but it turned out to be a keyhole above the cylinder release latch. I gave it to her anyway. It was too late to buy her a lamp or something to replace it.

I was pissed as I hate such false sense of security taught the sheeple who believe that key is the "key"........

Oh well, Rant over. Stay Safe !
