Report on Ellen Ratner's "Dead Americans" Comment
special to FreeRepublic ^ | 2 January 2003 | Congressman Billybob (J. Armor, Esq.)

Posted on 01/02/2003 4:17:57 AM PST by Congressman Billybob

On Thursday mornings, I do a half-hour segment on the national radio show, "American Breakfast." I expected Ellen Ratner to come on for the last five minutes of that segment, as she has the last two weeks.

She knows me, and I know her. My feeling is that she was afraid to come on this morning and face the music about her "dead Americans" comment.

To recap for those who just tuned in, last Friday on Neal Cavuto's Show on Fox, the following exchange took place between Ratner and Brenda Buttner, sitting in for Cavuto:

[After a discussion that George Bush would be reelected "unless the economy tanks," Ratner said:

Ratner: Unless he messes up the war -- I hope.

Buttner: You hope?!

Ratner: Well, I don't want him to be reelected.

Here are the three questions I was prepared to ask Ratner when she showed up:

Q: Have you been fired yet from World Net Daily or from Fox News? [Ratner made it clear on "American Breakfast" on Monday that she has no intention of resigning.]

Q: You said on Cavuto's Show you "hope" that President Bush will "mess up the war" and not "be reelected." Since the only way any President can "mess up" any war is to get Americans killed needlessly, how many American deaths do you hope for? 10,000? 30,000?

Q: [Assuming she said "that's old news" or "let's move on"] You say this is "old news." Trent Lott is "old news" because he's apologized and resigned. Patty Murray is "new news" because she's done neither of those. Isn't it your turn to apologize, and resign?

I ask those more computer-adept than me, to post up the links for Roger Ailes, head of Fox News, and Joseph Farrah, head of World Net Daily. Also a link for Neal Cavuto, since this happened on his Show.

Do not bother to send any more e-mail to Ratner herself. Monday on "American Breakfast" she referred to the "hate mail" she is receiving. I know from direct experience with her that every communication not agreeing with her arrogant, far-left ideas, is "hate mail" in her view. So, do not waste time or finger energy sending any more mail to her.

Fox News and World Net Daily have no use for left-wing ideas, generally. They have Ratner on their payrolls as "balance," or an example of what children can grow up to believe if they have typical left-wing backgrounds and educations. But there is an ample supply of such examples, without using Ratner who "hopes" for Americans to be killed so President Bush will not "be reelected."

Please spread the word get on talk radio, and put up the links to FReep Fox and WND and Cavuto so that Ratner will be fired. Ratner is also employed by National People's Radio. But to quote Hillary!, in the "back alleys" of NPR, they agree with Ratner's "death to Americans" comment. So nothing can be accomplished there.

Ratner's multiple employments (not counting her position with Talkers magazine), demonstrate the approach of the average limosine liberal. Talk equality, but grab all the cash you can get from any source. (Witness both Bill Moyers and his son, as discussed on FR in the last few days.)

Well, that's my report on Ratner. I'm sure she checks the Internet, so I doubt she will ever dare go on-air live with me again.

Respectfully Submitted,

Billybob / John

Actually, most of the Democrats on the Hill hope for the same thing. They're just not stupid enough to say it aloud on TV.

It's one thing to hope the President gaffes by saying something stupid like George I's comment about grocery checkouts. It's quite another to hope he fails miserably by getting Americans killed or tanking the economy.

Today's Dems (led by the clintons) are guilty of placing personal political power above the national interest.

Ratner is clearly looking for the same result politically, for Bush that Johnson suffered from Vietnam. How many American dead did it take for Johnson to decline to run?

Anyone who understands the liberal mindset and has been up against them for any length of time knows exactly what this wench meant. If you think for a second that she'd bat an eye if thousands of Americans died just for the chance for the Democrats to regain power............think again.

It is clear that RATner said what every other demonrat is thinking and hoping. That the war goes badly, the economy suffers, and Americans are hurting. Somehow in their evil state of mind they think that somehow this is going to help them regain power.

We suspected that was their hope but now we have no more delusions that there are any honorable dems. Not a one has criticized RATner or Murray bin laden.

I would argue that the only way the Democrats can make effective political use of a failure in war is massive American casualities. This, then, is not stretching her statement, this is taking it to its logical conclusion.

I disagree with your assessment. While those may certainly be considered mess ups, they are not the kind of mess ups that will cause Bush to lose the war which can only be lost the same way Vietnam was lost, public sentiment against the war. I.E. large numbers of body bags being returned.

To get upset with this statement or try to stretch it into something it is not is a bit much.

It certainly is not. Time and time again the demorcraps have shown they would rather see Americans Suffer rather than not regain their power.

They wish for
a bad economy,
racial problems,
a lost war,
oil shortages etc....
Just so they can have issues.

The real shame is they never fix the problems, they just need the issues.

Keep the heat on if you get the chance. The war we are fighting overseas is the same war we are fighting at home...only on a different level...collectivists/criminals that hate America's freedom/individual rights.

It should be crystal clear that President Bush will NOT pull a Neville Chamberlain and "mess up" by failing to act. All the other ways of "messing up" a war that you refer to, DO involve unnecessary deaths of American servicemen. And even your first option of "do nothing" could wind up with hundreds of thousands of American civilians dead.

The short of it is, Ratner blurted out the truth of what she thought and means, on live TV. No one can either spin that or make it go away, now.

The latter consideration, the error of doing nothing, is why I expect a direct confrontation with North Korea as a double feature. As soon as Hussein is dead and gone in Iraq, and his thugs have been replaced with a "peaceful" government under our supervision, I expect American attention, personnel and equipment to go East, rather than come home, in order to confront North Korea.

The first step in the ending of the Korean War (which, by the way, has never legally ended, it is only a "truce"), will be an air attack on the NK nuclear facilities. Remember the Israeli attack on a nuclear facility outside Baghdad almost twenty years ago? I expect the same on 2003 in NK.

You have, unfortunately, repeated a liberal "urban myth." George Bush I was not "surprised by how an electronic checkout works." The truth of that is the checker showing it to him took a torn UPC tag and scanned it.

It still worked. THAT was what surprised Bush I; it still scanned despite being torn.

Anything that's good for the nations economic or national security it's bad for the RATS.

It's instructive to remember that Daschle obstructed the presidents economic stimulus and homeland security proposals while offering no alternative plans.

Airdrop the Rat into Baghdad now! Yes, she is an enemy of America and should be treated as such.

Wars can be screwed up in many ways, including not acting at all, acting at the wrong times or attacking the wrong targets. To get upset with this statement or try to stretch it into something it is not is a bit much.

BS. You screw up a war effort and people die as a result of inaction, attacking the wrong targets, or acting at the wrong time. To hope for something to go wrong for Bush's war effort is to implicitly understand that our men will die.

Sorry you fail to see the logic....

Whatever she meant, she should explain herself. It is rather obvious that she wants Bush to fail. If Bush fails, so does the United States. She should be made to account for her words.

She'll get the lefty liberal media pass, as usual.

This article will only inflame the passions of all right thinking folks...which is fine, but will hardly change what the lefty media chooses to provide or condemn.
