Commentary
Islam Is a Religion of Peace

By Donald E. Wildmon
December 31, 2002

A plane is commandeered and flown into one of the World Trade Center towers in New York. A few minutes later, another commandeered plane is flown into the other WTC tower. In Washington, a third plane is crashed into the Pentagon. And still another crashes in Pennsylvania. It was headed, it is believed, to the White House. Thousands of innocent citizens are killed.

Who is responsible? A group of Muslims. In Islamic countries, the streets are full of Muslims celebrating the carnage. No Muslin leader steps forward to apologize, to publicly refute the actions of those responsible. There is only silence from the Muslim leaders around the world. But, we are told by our own leaders, Islam is a religion of peace.

In Bali, a bomb explodes killing hundreds of innocent individuals. A group of Muslims is responsible. But, we are reminded, Islam is a religion of peace.

In Nigeria, hundreds of Muslim youths go on a rampage following their Friday prayers. Armed with sticks, daggers and knives, they set fire to vehicles and attack anyone they suspect of being Christian. The carnage leaves over 100 people dead. They are upset with an article in a local paper -- ThisDay -- which suggests that the Prophet Mohammed would have probably chosen to marry one of the Miss World contestants if he had witnessed the beauty pageant hosted by Nigeria. The newspaper apologizes for the article, which they say was run by mistake, but the rampage continues after the apology. We must remember that Islam is a religion of peace.

In the Philippines, Muslim rebels ambush a Canadian company's workers, killing 12 and injuring 10. Earlier, on Christmas Eve, a bomb made from an 81-mm mortar shell filled with nail fragments explodes outside the home of a town's mayor, killing 17 people. But remember, Islam is a religion of peace.

In Pakistan, three Christian girls -- ages 6, 10, and 15 -- attend a Christmas Day service to celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace. Two assailants covered in burqas -- the all-encompassing garment worn by women in some Islamic countries -- toss a bomb into the church where 40 Christians have gathered. The girls die. A Christmas service is turned into bloody chaos. One of those detained as being responsible is an Islamic cleric who told his followers to kill Christians. Let us not forget that Islam is a religion of peace.

In eastern India, a gang armed with crude bombs attacks a Christian church, wounding six people and robbing hundreds of others. In Bangladesh, police guard churches as the nation's small Christian community celebrates Christmas with prayers, carols, and feasts. In the Sudan, over two million Christians have been slaughtered by radical Muslims. Still we are told that Islam is a religion of peace.

In Yemen, a Muslim extremist shoots and kills three American Southern Baptist medical missionaries -- there to help anyone needing their healing skills, including Muslims. We must not forget that Islam is a religion of peace.

What do those who do all this evil want? Land? No. Money? No. Political power? No. They want none of the things normally associated with individuals and groups who do such deeds. What, then, do they want? They want only to harm, to cause destruction and promote fear, to attack and kill the "infidels." That is their reward.

But, please, before we rush to judgment, let us remember that Islam is a religion of peace. We are told that these Muslims who are doing the killing are extremists who are outside the mainstream of Islam. That would be easier to believe if there were Muslim leaders who condemned the atrocities. But there are none.

Why, then, do our leaders continually tell us that Islam is a religion of peace? Perhaps it is easier to be politically correct than it is to tell the truth.

If someday our current president is free to say that this "religion of peace" nonsense was promoted because it was necessary to establishing forward deployed launch platforms in otherwise hostile Arab states, then I'll be content. In the meantime, I'm fairly certain that's what's going on.

Plus, it seems to support his way of looking at appeasing the multiculturalist/pluralist befuddled, while implementing his plans for nonintrusive government cooperation with faith based institutions.

Agreed, the president would be as phenominally stupid as he's accused of being by both the far-left and the rabid right if he were to literally condemn all of Islam to the world public.

Since there is nothing stupid about GW...I'm with you in believing the president is simply using diplomacy as one of the many weapons he has in his arsonel.

Even most of the Arab world believes that our president is only paying lip service to their Religion of Piece ® propaganda because his ACTIONS show he's not buying it at all...so why is it so many Americans take his words so literally?

[Arabic ’islm, submission, from ’aslama, to surrender, resign oneself, from Syriac ’alem, to make peace, surrender, derived stem of lem, to be complete. See lm in Semitic Roots.] Religion of Peace my ....foot.

The word Islam originates from the Arabic words islm which means "submission" and from aslama which means "to surrender".

In my best Issac Hayes imitation, "Right on."

Mass arrests of thousands of Muslims isn't enough? The president should throw all Muslims into concentration camps then?

Many times, people condemn and ridicule beliefs, values, and customs because of a lack of understanding. There indeed have been many examples of actions that can lead one to believe that the religion of Islam is not as Peaceful as it claims. However, the same can also be said of Christianity. We must not forget that many have been hung, raped, molested and brutally beaten under the name of Christianity. But, we do not condemn all Christians as rapists or child molesters. There is a passage in the Bible that states (please allow me to paraphase), he that is without sin should cast the first stone.

Well said, except that I would make the distinction of saying "falsely under the name of Christianity." The actual name of Chritianity is a very picky name, as we will all find out on the other side, where the great white throne sits.

Then he would be worse than most of them (at least stateside) are.

I still wouldn't say we are at war with Islam; I'd say we find ourselves in a war with Islamism.

The main difference in Christianity is in the New Testament on which Christianity is founded, there are no instructions kill non- Christians if they fail to convert.

In Islam there are passages instructing the faithful to get non- Muslims to submit or if that fails kill them. That's the problem. And some Muslims are following the religion to the letter. - Tom

Each of us is responsible ... to love and guide our children, and help a neighbor in need.

Synagogues, churches

and mosques

are responsible ... not only to worship but to serve.

Capt., all, I'd be interested in finding quotations and analysis here. Know where that may be found? I've got some pieces to read already, but would also like to see Koran quotes (presented in context, of course).

(And I love to see Bible quotes when presented contextually. There is no injustice from God in the Bible, nor instructions to be unjust.)

Interesting point. Let me make one to you, which I rarely see brought up here.

Most of the problem with Muslims is they hate people of other faiths, and think it is okay to kill people of other faiths. Christians, for example, will tell you that Muslims are going to hell regardless of whether they kill or not, but because they do not follow Christianity.

Yes, a lot of bad things were done in the past by Christians and others. But what about those of us that do not subscribe to a particular faith? Are we thus allowed to cast stones?

I do not disagree with Islam and Muslims because I think it is not the true faith of God. I disagree with it because it has no value for human life. Islam calls for the subjugation of humans, and I will not subjugate myself for anyone. I will not be a slave. I disagree with Islam because I feel it is wrong. I disagree with Muslims because they carry out acts against non Muslims that are wrong.

I'm all for different religions. I don't know which one is the "right" one. Personally, I think the answer is that there is no answer. But Islam and Muslims do things that are against any sane human's moral code, whether they be religious or not. For that reason, and that reason alone, it should be condemned.

Quite true. But that was a long time ago however and I think we've progressed beyond that type of behavior.
