WHEN CHRISTMAS BECOMES ILLEGAL
DATE: December 13, 2002 | Jerry Falwell

Merry Christmas everyone!

Oops, did I say Christmas? I meant to wish you Happy Holidays or a Cheerful Winter Season. Christmas, you see, contains that dirty little word ... Christ.

If you don't believe me, just ask the veteran first-grade teacher who was informed this week that she could not mention the word "Christmas" in her Sacramento public school classroom.

Imagine that. Christmas banned in a public school classroom. This interdiction is actually quite predictable because the word Christmas and the concept of a holiday bearing the name of Christ contradicts the situational ethics that pervades many public school classrooms. If there is no true right and wrong, there must not be a notion of a Savior or the need of a Savior.

However, such a ban is nothing less than religious persecution. In order to promote "diversity," these types of policies actually target individual for their beliefs. It is systematic discrimination that is unconstitutional and illegal.

Tragically, the ACLU and similar groups have convinced many public school officials that the mere mention of Christ or a biblical reference is barred by law. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In the Harry Potter series, the evil character Voldemort is so feared that his name must never be mentioned. Similarly, real-life religious antagonists today are creating an environment that virtually prohibits the mention of Christ in public school classrooms or in the public square. By twisting the meaning of the Constitution, they have produced an atmosphere of fear regarding Christ and Judeo-Christian teachings.

Across the nation, school and city officials are banning Christian themes. Nativity scenes have been barred in some New York schools. A New Jersey middle school cancelled a field trip to attend a performance of a play based on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." In Lewistown, Pa., a Christian church was denied tax exemption because it distributes food to needy families (the activity was deemed not to be religious worship). In Cleveland, Tenn., missionaries have been barred from placing religious literature on cars (even though other groups frequently do so). The Ten Commandments - the very foundation of American law - have been banned in many public arenas. (Thank God that Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore is leading the defense of the Commandments by legally defending his erection of a Ten Commandments monument in the rotunda of his courthouse.)

These alarming actions are part of a diabolical scheme by anti-religion devotees to create distinctive and unfair rules for religious Americans. These individual cases will eventually add up to a national climate of overt hostility toward Christianity (and Christians). It's really quite a frightening scenario, but we are literally watching it unfold before our eyes.

We have seen a federal court panel rule that the mention of God in the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional. Atheists are now attempting to seek the ban of congressional chaplains. Barry Lynn of Americans United for Separation of Church and State has admitted that he wants the word God erased from American coins. These people literally want a godless society, a concept that dramatically conflicts with the God-centered nation our Founders created and nurtured.

The agenda is clear. Christians must be prepared to stand ready to fight for their rights. It is apparent that our adversaries who wish to stifle us will not rest until they have silenced every last one of us.

Liberal collectivism is like a virus. It's spreading. Americans are going to have to take back America! Our founding fathers paid a high price for what is being stolen from us. Our fathers paid a high price to defend this gift. Our generation can not be allowed to throw away what set America apart form the rest of the world. We must take a stand...from this point foward!

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!!

I asked how soon someone will turn us in for playing these songs in our home. Wife said there may be a time soon when stores can't sell them..

Cut to 2057:

The Senate majority leader's resignation has been demanded by groups across the political spectrum after the senator said that he agreed with Jerry Falwell's 2002 statements in reference to "Christmas." No one in the second half of the 21st century would dare advocate a return to those days 55 years ago when "Christmas" was actually celebrated, and political figures mentioned the word in PUBLIC! Next thing you know, the senator might suggest that abortion is wrong, or might oppose the right of homosexuals to have sex with children of all ages!

Cut to 2057:

You left out the part about it taking 55 years to end the socialist Supreme Courts empire building which started in 2003...

Look at it this way. BOTH Hannukah and Eid al Fitr (the end of Ramadan) are now BOTH over!

The only one 'diversity' holiday left beside Christmas for this month is 'Kwanzaa'.

Anyone going to tell me Kwanzaa rivals Christmas worldwide? Christmas is all encompassing and is celebrated by black and white alike, while Kwanzaa is restricted for all intents and purposes to American blacks (one country out of 187 countries).

Therefore, what is the point of "Happy Holidays" and "Seasons Greetings!"? There is only one real worldwide 'holiday' left in December 2002 that is diverse, all encompassing, and welcomes all mankind from whatever background with open arms, and that is "CHRISTMAS"!

I agree. We need to stand on moral courage and slap political correctness right in the face, and offer a loving "MERRY CHRISTMAS" wherever we go now for the next ten days or so. It will feel good, I know it.

Who joins me in this?

**As far as I'm concerned, I am celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, and I am willing to share the good feelings I have at this time of year with others.**

That look on people's faces is priceless, isn't it?

But often wishing them a Merry Christmas offers an opening to talk about the values of the world and the values of Christian/Vatholic living for me.

But it's okay to celebrate that phony holiday Kwanzaa, right?
And it's okay to do everything the leftists tell you is a right, as long as you don't say "Christmas"?
Un-fing-believable.

You have the wrong take on the X-mas tree. The custom of decorating a tree, followed by a sacrifice of that tree in a fire, grew up with the abandonment of human sacrifice (the original and true religion of Father Abraham).

The tree is a substitute sacrifice. Burning the Yule Log at the end of the season is nothing more than the burning of the substitute sacrifice.

If there's a single religious element left in the public presentations this time of year, it's that X-mas tree!

(Note: The "X" is from the "Icthus" - "Fish" symbol of the early Christians. "X" is a valid representation of "Christ" within Christian history - it is not some pagan or secular substitute.)

(NOTE: today I learned about when "the Lord", or "Vishnu", or the devine person identified as "God", as distinct from Brahmin, aka "the Universe", manifested Himself in the days of the prophet Noah - known as Manu in Hindu holy scripture - He did so as a "fish". Manu - or Nu - or Noah - tied his boat with his 7 personages on board to a large "fish" and was thereby saved.)

(NOTE: the Hebrew story of Noah requires God to deliver the word directly to Noah because, after all, Judaism does not admit of the three-person nature of God. As a result Noah had to build his own boat. In the Hindu version the religious point of view is much more like that of Christianity so God can simply send His own fleshly manifestation directly to Noah to save him. Tradition holds it that God did so in the body of a large fish. - Uhh, see Jonah and maybe Jeremiah's Juggernaut - I would imagine the Moslems went absolutely nuts when they first encountered Hinduism!)

(NOTE: Uh, the Moslems claim Nu - or Noah - as "one of their own".)

(NOTE: Hindus claim Krishna, God's "in person" fleshly manifestation, may be symbolized by a large snake - usually a King Cobra. Moses ALSO used a snake on a pole as the symbol of his socio-political movement, if not of God Himself.

Now, after wading through all of that, it is also worth noting that the X-Mass tree tradition predates Rome. It's really old.

The point I am making is that Christans do not need christmas to be a
religious holiday....Whether you are taking Jesus out of Christmas or putting Him
back in you are missing the point of the true meaning of Christmas.

I agree with a lot of what you said.
But the funny thing is that when I look around the world, my general (personal)
feeling is that I'd rather live in a country where Christmas is observed...
than in one where it is not observed (or forbidden).

OK, that's my quirky observation of the day...

I know that the reactions from young people can be somewhat disconcerting regarding Christmas. A lot of us have been "engineered" to view Christmas as a neutral day. I'd like to tell everyone to take heart though, because not all of the younger generation has forgot how important Christmas is. I am 25, and I have two young children that I plan to raise to understand how great and special of a time Christmas is. There are a lot of twenty somethings like me doing the same thing. The younger generation is not totally lost!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I had to really search to find Christmas cards with the Nativity scene this year. Hopefully it was because others had been buying them too!!

I am happy to report that my local Genovese/Eckerd drug store had a wide variety of boxed Christmas cards this year. In years past it was virtually impossible to find boxed cards that didn't have a "Seasons Greetings" or "Happy Holidays" message. But this year at least half of the available cards showed a Nativity scene, quoted a Bible verse, or at the very least said "Merry Christmas." In fact, I had a hard time choosing!

Nothing irritates me more this time of year than the generic use of the word "holiday." I almost threw my radio out the window when I heard a commercial for some home products store in which the actors were merrily burbling about how this particular store made it easy for them to buy their children's "holiday gift." I could almost hear my late father roaring, "WHICH HOLIDAY? ARBOR DAY???" LOL

Sounds like you had a good choice. Things are starting to get scary - teachers not being able to mention Christmas, etc. We've got to do what we can to fight it!!
