Maine: Mayor urges Somali immigrants not to move to Lewiston

The dream was born during the Somalian civil war, a decade ago, when he returned from the grocery store to find his home had been turned to rubble, his mother and brother inside. The family buried its dead and fled Mogadishu, eventually arriving in a Kenyan refugee camp, a way station in a much grander journey.

Looking at the article, immigration is the least of your problems. The unbelievable tax rate is a more important issue - I pay less tax on a $400k house in VA than the guy with the $80k house in this town.

No doubt, it is the limousine liberals, safe in their gated communities, who have effected this.

And the likes of those who write for the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal. It is simply not accurate to blame current immigration policies--or lack thereof--on liberals alone. Those who have no notion of culture, who think that the age of the nation-state is waning (though they may be somewhat fuzzy on what will replace it), and who are wedded to the concept of free markets as an organizing principle of society are just as blameworthy as the most ardent proponents of multi-culturism.

Sending these parasites home would cost the American taxpayer a lot of money. Granted, it would be far cheaper than keeping the turds here, but still costly.

I have a better idea.

These immigrants should be part of a special task force, whos purpose is to go door-to-door, confiscating the firearms of Americans. Abortionists, homos, illegal aliens, bureaucrats, and democrats should also be part of this agency. They should all be given blue UN uniforms, which I'm sure we could hoodwink the Europeans into paying for since they don't like our guns.

This would cost virtually nothing, and would solve a lot of problems at the same time.

This is a no-brainer. How desirable is it for anyone - either existing locals or Somali immigrants - for significant numbers of non-English-fluent, no-skill Third World immigrants to show up in a town with no real job base for such people?

Two or three years ago,some of the good people of Maine were probably protesting attempts to keep illegals out of Calif. and other western states, secure in the knowledge that it would NEVER happen to them.

Now it has. How did that happen?

It's going to happen in every state and every city.

Someone once said that democracies end when the voters realize that they can pilfer through the ballot box. Once there is a large enough core group of these people and they vote there will be a dem who will want to appease them to get their votes, then that place will go downhill like other inner cities run by democrats.

You have to remember that these people are used to living in a hut with virtually zero modern conveniences. They can get by on a fraction of what you or I could. They could probably survive indefinetly on govt. handouts. They are used to chewing ket all day and sitting around, does anyone actually think that if the opportunity existed to work in a mill 8-12 hours a day and do real work they actually would? That mindset does not exist in these people, it never has. Why has Africa remained in the stone age while western civilization has continually advanced?

Somebody commented on an earlier thread that the way to solve this problem was for the people of Lewiston to hold a special election and immediatly suspend all welfare,food stamps,government housing subsidies ect, for 18 months.Or they could have a residency requirment,live here for 5 years before you are eligible to recieve money.
The problem people would leave, the reputation of the city as a haven would change overnight,the people could privately support locals who were on the dole for good reason and the problem would become manageable.

I have no idea if Mainers protested a few years ago. I didn't hear anything about that. I'm so far north in Maine that if I don't get the news on the Net, I'm not going to know anything.
