Gore Calls 2000 Verdict 'Crushing,' Assails Court
Washington Post ^ | 11/16/2002 | Dan Balz

Posted on 11/14/2002 9:25:16 PM PST by Pokey78

In his first interviews since conceding the presidency to George W. Bush almost two years ago, former vice president Al Gore calls the outcome of the 2000 election "a crushing disappointment" and criticizes the 5-4 Supreme Court decision that put Bush in the White House as "completely inconsistent" with the court's conservative philosophy.

"I believe that if everyone in Florida who tried to vote had had his or her vote counted properly, that I would have won," Gore said in an interview with Washington Post Magazine staff writer Liza Mundy for an article to be published Sunday. "I strongly disagreed with the Supreme Court decision and the way in which they interpreted and applied the law. But I respect the rule of law, so it is what it is."

Gore told ABC's Barbara Walters, in an interview to air tonight on ABC's "20/20," that he "absolutely" believed he would become president when the Florida Supreme Court ordered a recount of all disputed ballots in the state, making the result all the more emotionally difficult to accept. His wife, Tipper, said in the Post interview, "I still believe we won."

>>>He "respected" the rule of law? Still delusional after all these years.<<<<

He respected the law only if there was a legal controlling authority...

There is a story going around DC that I can not confirm. But it is said Gore was driven out of the mansion by the drone of the Freepers in a limo. They drove down toward the WH and stopped at the McD's so he could pea. The quarter machine to get in the mens room has never worked there but he didn't know it. They say he was in panic when he got back into the limo. Funny stuff.

This story comes from an aid that was having dinner at the McD that worked for Hillery. His name is Mel. Several of us DC Freepers have met Met. And, I believe it.

"...I'm about to stroke out!"

Please, don't.

But consider whether Algore has done himself any favors here. The whining is pathetic. The victim status is bathetic.

Didn't the American electorate just tell the Democrat Party nationwide -- well, everywhere but California -- that they're tired of this crap? Didn't they send a message to the Democrats -- something along the lines of "get a life" and "move on"?

And, now, into the wake of this stern lecture, steps Algore. With his insipid delusions and tale of imagined inequity. What exquisite timing...!!!

I believe Algore may, once again, have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory...

Sorelosermania, socialized medicine, ecohysteria, black preacher voice, the works.

It sure sounds like the Sore Loserman is a broken record over the defeat and will join Nancy Pelosi in only raising the decibel level of the shrill rant from the sidelines.

By 2004 either OBL and the gang are caught or a even darker cloud hangs over the West. So these Dimwits will either miss the party in the streets when OBL's head is on a stake or they will continue to fuss over the need for a defense while the public just considers their safety as topic #1 and the Dems as irrelevant. They lose.

(Whiney voice) Well, yes, I thought they did, but these people act like something else happened and I am confused. </ whiney voice >

I remember hearing that he had to leave the house to hold one of those "impromptu" press conferences he was having in the driveway because you could HEAR the shouts. It was swell.

KING: When I said it was close, it was the -- he beat Bush by more than Kennedy beat Nixon and more than Nixon beat Humphrey.

WALTERS: And won the popular vote.

KING: Yes.

WALTERS: And who knows? I mean, had it not been Jeb Bush's state, had it not been for Katherine Harris and certainly, had it not been for the Supreme Court, we don't know what the result would have been. But we asked him about all those things.

The emotional impact on Gore's family was significant. Daughter Kristin Gore called the 2000 election experience "pretty devastating," while Gore said, "I'm not saying it was easy for me emotionally. It wasn't easy." He said he and his family prayed together not to turn bitter over what had happened.

WELCOME TO THE ALBERT BAWL

Good morning! I am quite cheered by the comments on here.

If Gore would go away, perhaps in time I might forget how much I loathe him. Remember the sighs in the first debate? Remember the "Mr. Rogers voice" he used to answer questions? Remember his attempt at intimidation of George Bush (one of the best visuals I have ever seen on live TV)?

Remember that HORRIBLE convention the Rats had with panelists and the home movie showing Gore pointing out Tipper's NUDE SELF_PORTRAIT DONE WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT???

I can go on like this for hours! These people remind me of the characters in the game "Whack-a-mole." You have to keep clubbing them down every time they pop their heads up!
