Dear Military Lurkers
As you have now noticed there have been changes to the Canteen.
1st of all let me assure you that the Canteen is here to stay.
Due to circumstances beyond my control I have assumed the duty of running the Canteen.
I could not even begin to explain what happened on this or on any other thread.
HOWEVER feel free to e-mail me at seaside611@hotmail.com with any questions.
It is my intention to keep the original purpose of the Canteen on track.
That purpose is to show our support for the military, their families and veterans.
Please be assured that we stand firmly behind you.
May God Bless and Protect you, my Brothers and Sisters.

I'm not an everyday poster....and I gather there's been a rocky road for the Canteen. I guess that kind of stuff happens in a country where we have the freedom to debate, have different opinions, and even arguments. Lord knows in other countries, you'll hardly find men and women posting ANYTHING on a website, let alone their thoughts and ideas. Nobody ever said we Americans were perfect....but, doggone it, we have freedoms other people can only dream about.
I honor and cherish our military personnel....active, reserve, retired....all of them. I thank them from the bottom of my heart....I teach my children (ages 10 and 8) that 'freedom isn't free'...somebody has to sacrifice something. They colored a picture of our flag and took it up the street to our 77-yr-old neighbor who was awarded 2 Purple Hearts for his service in WWII. He said it made his day. They played a song for him on their recorders. He may be just "our neighbor" every day....but he's also our hero everyday.
God bless you all.....our military serving our country and the people who remember them everyday. THANK YOU.
Tonk; You're busy today, so Station #51 will provide transportation.

I found this post from the Federalist, which was intended for yesterday, but was delayed by the tornados. Let's call it Veteran's Day II- "I'll be back!"
"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived." --Gen. George S. Patton ++ "To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace." -- George Washington ++ "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty." --John F. Kennedy ++ "No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave." --Calvin Coolidge ++ "Honor to the soldier, and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country's cause. Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as he best can, the same cause." --Abraham Lincoln ++ "...[L]et us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain. --Dwight D. Eisenhower ++ "Sir, I have not yet begun to fight!" --John Paul Jones ++ "The patriot volunteer, fighting for country and his rights, makes the most reliable soldier on earth." --Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson ++ "So, as you go into battle, remember your ancestors and remember your descendants." --Tacitus ++ "Breathes there the man with soul so dead, Who never to himself hath said, This is my own, my native land!" --Walter Scott ++ "A man's country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle; and patriotism is loyalty to that principle." --George William Curtis ++ "There exist only three beings worthy of respect: the priest, the soldier, the poet. To know, to kill, to create." --Charles Baudelaire ++ "I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity." --Dwight D. Eisenhower ++ "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many, to so few." --Winston Churchill ++ "There never was a good war, or a bad peace." --Benjamin Franklin ++ "That is not to say that we can relax our readiness to defend ourselves. Our armament must be adequate to the needs, but our faith is not primarily in these machines of defense but in ourselves." --Admiral Chester Nimitz

THE GIPPER "Free people must voluntarily through open debate and democratic means, meet the challenge that totalitarians pose by compulsion. It's up to us, in our time, to choose and choose wisely between the hard but necessary task of preserving peace and freedom and the temptation to ignore our duty and blindly hope for the best while the enemies of freedom grow stronger day by day." --Ronald Reagan (1983)
Have a great day All!

He got spit on, had people try to run him down, and in general spent a miserable few days on the side of the road. Finally, he took off his uniform. He was home to Florida within the week. He never told me about this until last year, when he took his honorable discharge papers out of the attic and framed them on his living room wall for his children to see.
He deserved better. Americans owes a debt of gratitude and an apology to you and him and the men who didn't come home, giving their lives in defense of a people who had allowed their culture to sink to that level.
I WILL NEVER SPEND A PENNY OF MY MONEY ON ANY PRODUCT ENDORSED BY JANE FONDA, JESSICA LANGE, WOODY HARRELLSON OR ALEC BALDWIN. They have their right to stand up and say who they are and what they beleive in, and I have the right to utterly reject them. I raise my kids to stand for the Color Guard and the national anthem, knowing that when they stand, when no-one else does, they may attract attention to themselves, but they are standing for a reason. They are standing in honor of patriots. Like you.
I'm a boomer. While I did not spit, etc., on the returning Viet Nam vets, neither did I support them. I simply went about my daily life (as a college student attending classes). During my college career, I studied in Germany for a year (1970-1971). It was there that I saw and learned what freedom is really all about (visits to the Berlin Wall, into East Germany, etc). Now I want to do what I can to help maintain those freedoms for the current and future generations of America.
THANK YOU, MILITARY, FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!

Ugly, ugly drive to work. The whole city is a sheet of ice. FORTUNATELY, which is not always the case, everybody on my route drove slowly and carefully. Sliding at all intersections. A white knuckle drive.
Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.
Prayer of Protection said for all who enter the USO Canteen Freeper Style, including our troops, our veterans, their families and our allies. Welcome to all who come to honor our troops, for whom this USO Canteen was created.
