ARM THE PEOPLE - NOW!
Give me Liberty or Give me Death Web Site ^ | October 22, 2002 | Jeff Head

Arm the people. That is the answer, not only for the current environment, but for crime in general. The founders of this great Republic knew this, and they enumerated it in clear language in our constitution.

Use surplus M-14's or M-1's for long guns and .45's or 9mm's for sidearms and issue comm gear to all particpants Have the local sheriff's review those who volunteer and insure they are U.S. Citizens, have no violent criminal background, and are males between the ages of 18 and 50.

Deputize them.

Give them a three to five day crash course in rifle shooting and communications put on by volunteer former NCO's. Marine or Special Forces. Make update teraining mandatory every six months.

Have the Sheriff set up sentries (two to a location), perimeter patrols close to suspected targets (inner and outer ring) and close to local infrastructure to be protected from terrorists and also set up roving patrols in the community.

Have the comm procedure be to the local Sheriff who works with local FLEO's, from there to the National Guard at the state level for the Sheriff and to regional command for the FLEO's, and from there to Homeland Security at the National level who simply coordinates and calls in Federal forces if necessary.

Make the program voluntary but let those who complete training and six months of duty (that duty consisting of 4 six hour shifts per week) keep their firearm and comm gear.

Institute immediately - nation wide.

"Giving the people responsibility and arms - (you know - restoring the constitution) is NOT creating a police state..."

Correct, but organizing them patrolling the streets is.

Agreed ... add a physical endurance, strength and stamina test for any older individuals who want to volunteer.

FRegards.

Same here, and I and many like me are infinitely more experienced, better-trained, less afraid of a real fight, and meaner than most of today's youth....

I don't know if this is domestic or foreign, but one thing that is for sure, it is terrorism.
Most of us are armed, and I think if this continues, more will be.

"Sheriff's deputizing local citizens is not a police state. Arming local citizens is the anti-thesis of a police state. Get a grip."

Correct, but organizing them to patrol the streets is a police state, at least the beginning of one. So you're telling me to get a grip? That's rich. Lol!

You really ought to try reading the whole thing before you shoot your mouth off Pooh.

It says "former" as in retired, volunteer NCO's.

This would relieve any active duty participation whatsoever. Your shot is way off the mark.

I have to wait until next weekend and will appreciate any recommendations for arms appropriate for petite ladies who are not afraid to shoot them.

Correct, but organizing them patrolling the streets is

No, it isn't. This plan gives the people authority and direction and restores our original right and duty to protect our family, friends and neighbors.

you must realize that these will be citizens training and patroling and simply reporting and organizing efforts with local law enforcement.

You got it. We need a ground swell all over the country and then one couragous Sheriff and Governor to institute something like it.

We've had the discussion on the water Poohbah ... you're wrong aout Klamath and always will be as long as you maintain your attitude. The farmes paid the construction costs off and are still paying today, 100 years later. Nothing hand-out about that.

Compare the price of water in a free market to the subsidized price the Klamath farmers get charged. There is a significant delta between the two.

Notice that this program is a volunteer work program. They have to put in 4 six hour shifts per week for six months before they own the weapons. I don't see that as a hand out ... let's see, that's 24 hours week in addition to their normal job. Times four weeks per month times six months. You do the math.

576 hours of standing around at $0.00 an hour (what 99.99% of the folks you're talking about would actually be worth when TSHTF) equals $0.00.

If your goal is to provide a ready source of weapons and radios to steal from dead or surprised volunteers, however, it's a fantastic program.

... don't volunteer.

I don't need government permission to look after myself and my family. I don't need a government handout to do so.

the best governor I can think of for this is Janklow in SD.

That's the man that made a statement very similat to the fact that:
"anyone who kills a terrorist in my state - will be granted an immediate pardon".

It wouldn't exactly be a government handout. 24 hours of service per week times 24 weeks is 576 hours per person. Even at the paltry sum of $5.00 per hour this would amount to $2,880.00 per person not paid out in cash. A good rifle and comm gear would be inadequate, but honorable compensation.

OK, so you're going to rely on people who are long out of practice themselves to do the training. It might sound like a great idea...to those who have lobotomies, maybe.
