I wonder if the sniper ate dinner at the Ponderosa while scoping out his next victim.

I hope whoever waits at the phone booth, etc. is wearing bullet proof underwear, face mask and a helmet.

Perhaps it is a relative or someone who knows who the sniper is. If that is the case, this person needs to keep his distance from the sniper or better yet stay very close to the sniper since sniper is use to long ranges.

No no,this guy wants to talk to someone in charge for a short period of time.He offered to call on some city or county phone line and he wants someone in charge there to answer.Think about it,if you was the perp, how would you get in touch with someone in charge.

On another thread, they are thinking this is a pay phone.

How does that work? the person left a phone # won't that mean the COPS should call HIM???

Obviously, the phone company knows the location of the phone number. I'm sure that they would tell the cops, if asked. And, I suspect that the sniper knows that.

Doesn't it make more sense that the sniper wants the cops to go to the phone and answer it?

THIS IS HOW I TAKE IT...

The sniper has left a number, probably a pay phone number that is located somewhere. The police now have taken over that number and the are asking the sniper to call them at that number. The cops do not have to hang around at the pay phone they can disconnect the phone number at the pay phone and assign it to a phone at the police station etc... Even though this does not make sense and why would he not call the 1-888 number? Maybe he thinks the cops will actually hang around the pay phone that had the number assigned to it.

Can someone please tell me WHY IS MOOSE STILL IN CHARGE??????

Another Freeper suggested that he is merely a figurehead, that the FBI is calling the shots, telling him what to say ... and not to say. I think that Freeper is correct.

If not the FBI then the VA/MD state police.

Don't let him bug ya.

I'm watching the 'experts' on TV, talking about how confusing it is...

but it's obvious that the sniper provided a phone number (perhaps a police station, home, business etc...) where he expected them to be so he/they could contact them...

(Perhaps he/they know the line is clean, and this is his/thier way of staying 'safe'...???)

Duh.

Huh? Like if called into the county sheriff's office they wouldn't be able to transfer the call?

Maybe the note said establish this telephone number:123-456-7890.

Have a press conference when phone line is ready.

This is the only idea I have about what is happening about a phone number.

It's not likely that a ME terorist would leave a number for the police. If this is true it points to a home grown serial killer.

Here is the message as best I could get it. (Unfortunately, I don't know shorthand).

First, he asked the media to play this message clearly and often:

To the person who left us a message at the Ponderosa last night:
You gave us a number last night. We do want to talk to you. Call us at the number you provided.

See my number 29 if you haven't already.

Or a prankster.

Or it is some phone number that did not reach anyone, but now will reach a direct line to the police. A keyboard entry at the phone company can do that.

I would HATE to think that the sniper was in MY area with the STUPID people we have in the Sheriff's office at this time! Hope to change that soon...

I usually just lurk, but thought that the sniper could have left a "prepaid" cell phone, that he can call and not be traced. Moose is just letting him know they found it-maybe?
