Category 4 storm now....we are talking Andrew style now.

Don't underestimate this storm, even if you have been through hurricanes before, a cat 4 or 5 is a whole different beast.

Quite a few folks in the path of Lili seem to be hunkering down to ride it out. I hope they will bear in mind that a storm with winds of 140 mph is far, far more than twice as severe as a 70 mph storm. Wind pressure on a surface varies as the square of the increase in wind velocity; hence, their house would be exposed to four times, not two times, the wind pressure. I'm sure that the relationship of the height of storm surges to wind velocity is similarly exponential.

We are see just as far as the radar can see and not the entire storm.

please look at the tracking map.....the storm has made most of the turn already....dennislx keeps hearing all this "its not going to turn and its going to hit Houston"...it has turned, will continue to turn.....

I had the same Texas landfall concerns a few hours ago, but he ruled out Houston (I was actually concerned about Beaumont) in post #382. So I'm all relaxed now.

My windows are taped. I'll be filling water bottles later. I'll go out for food in a little while. I'm still fairly well-stocked from last week. It's not supposed to be bad here, but I want to be prepared. If I'm without power, I guess I won't be Freeping for a few days.

The storm is weakening some..the eye has clouds over it and cloud tops warmimg in places in the center..may just be eye-wall replacement...also do you know if that SAT eclipse is still happening>

It does look scary. This is similar to the Florida situation when they thought it was going there and it went tither and thon.

Right now I would say you are as right as anyone.

They haven't seen anything yet... Mostly likely I-49 will remain open for some time and this would be the best route to evacuate Lafayette and Breaux Bridge areas. The Aexandria coliseum and most large schools in North and Central Louisiana are open to accept evacuees...

There's still time to evacuate but window will close soon...

Weather Channel just reported recon plane just picked up a 160 mph wind in the eastern portion of the Hurricane.

He meant 160 MPH flight level winds which is about 140-145 on the surface
