A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....09-24-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

“Mugged” in New York!

by dansangel

A whirlwind of activity most appropriately describes a FReeper by the name of n.y.muggs. A member of Free Republic since November 29, 1998, he is an energetic and politically active person who aspires to a position in local N.Y. politics.

n.y. muggs

Top: n.y.muggs manning his own campaign. Bottom: Mrs.muggs,
his biggest and most loyal supporter!

When he’s not hot on his own campaign trail, n.y.muggs is actively participating in the elections of others. And, when he’s not out stumping for his favorite candidates, he’s organizing and participating in FReeps. Talk about burning the candle at both ends!
A n.y.muggs FReep is more like a good ole’ N.Y. mugging! No holds barred, pull out the stops… if you’re the object of a n.y.muggs Freep, you’re gonna be hurtin’ for certain! Just ask a certain “Junior Senator” from the great state of New York:

“Go Home Hillary” Freep. n.y.muggs is on the right. Wait…isn’t that former Mayor Rudy Giuliani in the center?

Along with Freeping dreaded politicians, n.y.muggs finds time to rub shoulders with admired politicians, as well:

Top: n.y.muggs shakes hands with GA. Congressman Bob Barr in Washington DC. Bottom: n.y.muggs “mugging” for the camera with Alan Keyes.

There’s a glamorous edge to the world of politics. n.y.muggs and his lovely wife Paula take time to attend a reception on Election Night 2000:

Being “One of FR’s Finest” may require some hard work, dedication and an occasional night on the town. One of the best perks, however, is that there is always the opportunity to express oneself:

Left: A solo Freep in D.C. Right: Senator Schumer, Hillary’s partner in crime in NY, fumes as a certain FReeper receives more press coverage than he!

It is with great pride that we present n.y.muggs - definitely “One of FR’s Finest!” The only people who need to worry about being mugged by this FReeper are those public figures who insist on hanging out on the wrong side of the ticket. ~dansangel~

Did you ever try hot tea with a little bit of sugar in it?

It's worked for me.

"Prayer is the first miracle and works every time."

You are so right! I can tell countless stories of how prayer has worked for me.

"Massive doses of Vitamin C with Rose Hips has never failed me yet."

I find that and zinc lozenges (yuck, but they work) do the trick for me. I haven't had a full-blown cold in a very long time...well over a year. At the first sign I hit the C and zinc heavily.

So glad you're feeling better!

Zinc is also good to take when trying to heal a wound or heal from surgery. It makes the skin grow back faster.

Great news Nan, I was praying for you. :)

I didn't know about the healing qualities of zinc. I'll have to try that some time. Thank-you!

I'm glad you know about the C too. Yes, the Zinc works too, but I find the C is better for me. I always wonder why anyone would take an antibiotic for a cold. I haven't had an antibiotic for at least 15 years. I imagine if I had something serious an antibiotic would work fine on me. To tell the truth, I'm frightened to death of prescription medicines. I know too many people who have been permanently damaged by them. My husband for one, and his brother who was given something to bring him out from under anesthesia and was made a vegetable. He died. I've also grown very cynical about doctors. Our once great health care system was ruined the day the government got involved with it. Just like everything else they ruin.

You're right Aqua. Zinc is a healing mineral. I've been studying alternative healing for many years and have more faith in it than in synthetic chemicals.

You are so right. I work in the health care industry and it is in a shambles not only since gov't got involved, but also since the insurance companies started calling the shots. The doctors are not given the chance to "doctor" any more. They are merely pupppets of the insurance companies.

I've had several surgeries and one was in an area that was hard to heal. My surgeon reccomended zinc, said he takes it to heal quicker, and he was right.
He was a good doctor Nan.;)

Good evening all!

I would like to start something different (or not so different) everyone seems to have a theme they are persuing and posting on AFF and the Canteen thread.

I thought I would come up with something. Maybe it would improve my writing skills as well! (Y'all have to admit they DO need improving, LOL!).

What I wish I was able to do is post pictures of each individual I wish to write about. These individuals I want to write about are those people who I admire a lot and some I try to emulate!

They are either related to me or they are public or religious figures throughout history. This is going to take a lot of researching! But to me that'll be the fun part!

I think tonight, I'll start with a relative, not much need for research there! This is only a sketch of his life.

My first person I'm writing about was born in Alberta,Canada in November of 1922, 80 years ago. He was the sixth of ten children, His Name is Raymond Fuchs, he is my mother's older brother. My uncle Raymond likes the outdoors, and to go hunting and fishing. He is retired from working for nearly 50 years on the Alaska Highway.

He served in the Canadian armed forces during WWII.

I admire his common sense approch to life. he lives in The Yukon Territory. he never married. but he has a lot of friends and a heart as big as the state of Texas!

Happy 80th birthday, uncle Raymond!

Thank you for your service to your country and to the USA!

There ARE some very good doctors....but in a lot of instances their talents are stifled because of HMOs and commercial and gov't (Medicare/Medicaid/Tricare) insurance.

I don't know alot about alternative healing but I do believe in it. I take herbs for hot flashes and an excellent treatment that I have found for sinus problems is a combination of herbs called HAS. You don't have the side effects with this treatment that you have with over the counter antihistamines.

That's a very good idea Pippin. You are very good at honoring people and have a fine sense for knowing who deserves to be honored. I look forward to these posts in the future.
