Should Congress vote to support Bush on his stand against Iraq before or after the elections? Poll

This one seems like it is a foregone conclusion that Congress should vote to support Bush and only a matter of when they should do it. Okay with me. I think they should vote to support our president. On the question of when, it seems those favoring delay have the day.

Should the U.S. Congress vote to support President Bush on his stand against Iraq before or after the November elections?

- After the elections. This is a big decision. It can wait until November. 65%

- Vote now. Congress should show it's unified behind President Bush and we mean business. 28%

- Undecided 7%

Poll Link Here

I realize some FReepers may be in favor of going slow - certainly this is a big question - so perhaps this thread will be a good place to examine this. How much deliberation should there be in Congress?

Come on! The only reason they want to wait until after the election is because they think they will get more RATS elected that way. The war may make Bush look good, leading to more votes for Pubbies.

What kind of stupid question is this for a poll to begin with? It isn't about deliberate slow thinking about it, it is a purely political question!

I'll bet they're calling him Dumbya and the Commander and Thief or Pretender in Chief. That Florida wound just won't heal for the lefty brigade.

That's my thinking! How they stand on the war ..... and I mean willing to stand up and vote, not just rant in front of a camera ...... should be an important factor as people decide who to support in the elections!!!!!

It's underway. Our no-fly zone fighters have been systematically taking out radar and missile positions for 10 days or so. The pathway is being cleared.

Bush is going to launch this campaign without warning. It could be tommorow (Sunday early a.m. in Iraq). No need to dally. Screw Daschele.

Before, obviously. If we wait until after, the socialists will not be held accountable for their treasonous acts AND the congress will be in recess untill after the holidays. America cannot afford to give Saddam additional time to pass-off his WMD's to our other enemies.

I sense that Bush made his approach last week, if Daschele wants to screw around, that's his deal. Daschele isn't going to jack the Prez around this time. Bush has patience with his pipsqueak adversary on domestic issues, but he's setting the schedule here.

I will guarantee six Democrats who will vote with Bush: Cleland, Johnson, Landrieu, Baucus, Carnahan and Torracelli. Maybe even Harkin and Wellstone.

If Wellstone votes Yea, he is a corrupt hypocrite. He never votes for military campaigns. But, to win in a tough race, he may need to. So he will. These guys have no governing ethos. They want the maintanence of power and office. There are NO good Democrats in the U.S. Senate. Maybe Zell Miller. But other than him? None.

Daschle better walk softly. His state voted for Bush. They keep the dems in congress to bring home the pork, but they always vote for the R's in the presidential race.

This will not go over well for little Tommy at home!

The Senate Democrats aren't in control of this timetable. Our neighbors saw Bush in front of the UN, that's what they wanted to see. Now he's got the green light. Congress is irrelevant in the equation from a political standpoint.

Edwards, Leahy & Lieberman already said today that they were on board with GWB. Sounds like Daschle probably has the 60 votes he needs to put it to a floor vote any time now.

I don't think Wellstone will vote yes. He's counting on taking the greens away this fall. The latest WCCO.com poll was saying wait for the UN last time I looked. Figures...

I'm sure the Red Star Tribune will weigh in on this if they haven't already.

They are really .... as I heard someone on tv say tonight .... between Iraq and a hard place ..... hehe!

If they vote with Bush, they really tick off their staunchest supporters and little tommy ..... but if they don't vote with Bush, the voters won't appreciate it at all. I love it!

Daschele just CANNOT stop himself from screwing with the agenda of the Prez. He can't stand aside and open a path to a very serious and dangerous mission if it might lead to a Bush win. The guy is just a pest. He hasn't moved any appropriation legislation through his chamber. He doesn't know how to get things done. He's a destroyer, a delayer, an obstacle. Well, that doesn't work in the Majority. He needs to work with the tough guy Pubbies in the House. He can't work with anyone. He's a dismal little elf. A "low talker" as Seinfeld would say.

Me too kayak. And to think...the dems were the one screaming to take it to the UN and bring it to congress.

Well, they've got it. Now let them put their votes where their mouths are.

Something about being careful what you wish for comes to mind. Too bad GWB is such an idiot /off sarcasm.

I agree with your assessment. The media will scream that it was a POLITICSL move, but we know better.
