Islam is not about murder and slaughter, and whoever thinks that it is needs to research Islam a little more closely. Welcome to FR. You're going to find a lot of hostility toward Islam here, most of it from people who take the trash-talking radicals at their word. And for good reason, there are rather a good number of them and they really are trying to kill us, you know.

You will also encounter those who are just as upset as you about this distortion of an otherwise beautiful and limpid theology. There are Christians who are similarly guilty about twisting the doctrine of their gentle Savior into justification for harming their fellow men and women. The difference is that these are few and largely marginalized, while at the moment the Islamic radicals are anything but.

I'm pulling for you. And, if I understand you correctly, I agree with you: this insane drumbeat of hatred has to stop. Only Moslems can make that happen, the rest of us cannot.

Alas, the Koran has plenty of verses about violence against nonmuslims. It's a fact.

You may argue that to you Allah is not the satanic moon god clearly involved in the worship of the tribal groups concerned at the time of Mohammad. But you can't, to me, logically argue that Islam is a religion of peace when so much of the text clearly advocates violence against nonMuslims.

BTW, one of Mohammad's many descendants converted to Christianity and lived with me for more than a year.

He did extensive research on the origins of the word "Allah."

That may be the case. But, in the eyes of the Radical Islamists, you would also be targeted as an infidel for your beliefs. Muslims like what you describe did not attack us. The ones that spout hate and the end of civilization as we know it did.

We've heard all these statements about true muslims and suchlike. And the so called distortion of the kuran.

You're gonna have a hard time convincing us of the BS about islam being hijacked when all over the world, from the Piillippines to Indonesia, Malaysia, even Thailand now, to Kashmir, Chechnya, Israel, Sudan, Algeria and the Balkans, the jihadis pursue their bloodletting with great fervor, enthusiasm and joy.

Better yet, the serious issue is the total lack of credibility on the part of the US muslims in relation to the rest of America. American muslims have not shown or demonstrated or proved that their primary loyalty is to America and to a civil secular society that promotes equality for women and tolerates and encourages a variety of viewpoints.

Don't the American muslims understand the hole they've dug for themselves.

I've read the Koran. From my copy of it:
 

Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day ... until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low
            Surah IX:29

O ye who believe! Choose not for friends such of those who received the Scriptures before you
        Surah V:57

Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them captive, and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush...
        Surah IX:5

And slay them wherever ye find them ... Such is the reward of disbelievers.
        Surah II:191
 

After doing my research, I conclude that Muslims who deny that Islam is about the violent enslavement/killing of non-Muslims are liars who think that their audience is incapable of finding out the truth

I hope and pray that muslims throughout the world will heed
your advice, but so far it has fallen on deaf ears. I have not heard any strong condemnation from any muslim with any authority of the most evil act committed in the name of the Qu'ran on 9.11, and the homicide bombing of innocent children, and women civilian.
