President Bush celebrated Labor Day in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania today as he spoke to members of the Carpenter's Union and attended a picnic. In his speech, the President focused on thanking American workers and on strengthening the country through compassion. He also used the occasion to stress the need for a cabinet-level department of homeland defense. Bush also toured the Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship Center on Neville Island. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I think he tries to present a professional image and a long sleeve shirt does that better than a short sleave one.

He has always worn long sleeve shirts with the sleeves rolled up. Look at the old pictures.

The story goes, long ago one of his friends or roomates had shirts piled up to give to Goodwill or some such and Dubya got them are wore them.

My guess is he wears the first shirt hanging in the closet if it's left up to him.

He wore some pretty shirts on the golf course in Maine.

But I must have missed something. Is FWI on vacation? I hope she's not ill and that everything is ok with her.

She's ok. She's just tending to some family matters right now and she will be back. I am sure she would appreciate all of our prayers during this time.

Compare the pictures taken today with the ones taken when he ran for congress--posted here tonight. The ones at the oil rig. Not a lot of difference.

He went to Harold's in Houston for new suits, tux and overcoat after he was elected.

Has anyone on this thread actually seen any of these pics in your local newspaper?

The answer is "no" here, too. Every day I search our papers for some small sign that our President has been somewhere, or done something, and all I find is an occasional, unflattering (purposefully) shot of Dubya looking angrily or intently at an (unseen) crowd. Rarely is there even an explanation as to where the picture was taken.

I get so upset, day after day, but there is no fair and balanced paper to be found, anywhere in the Chicago area....

Can't tell you about our local coverage of Bush.

When they call to get me to subscribe , I tell them not until they remove the liberal bias of the rag!

Oh, I know it isn't a consideration for them.

IMO it was just a headline to grab people's attention, and to show that the couple in the WH now was actually a couple (i.e. did things that could result in the conception of a child), as opposed to the xResidents, who most likely never did anything that could result in the conception of a child! :o)

Indeed, the conservatives eat their own, and in the end they are going to be twice bitten.

Short sleeves, long sleeves, I would be just as happy if he took the darn shirt off in the heat.

Opps, Ohio. Think you made a little booboo here. At least one of them did something that could have resulted in conception of a child. Just not with the spouse.

Thanks for the Horowitz link, WaterDragon. DrDeb is right, as usual -- it's a good review of an important book. The review was posted directly on FreeRepublic a couple days ago -- I just added the full text of the review to that post. See: How to Beat the Democrats and Other Subversive Ideas . I should break down and actually get the book - to join the other 40 books piled high on my night stand.

The President said the federal tax cut should be permanent. "You need to have more money as far as I'm concerned," he said, receiving a cheer from the crowd.

Now THAT'S the way to get the attention of those union workers!! None of this class warfare crapola practiced by x42 and company. These folks want a POSITIVE message, and they couldn't get any better one than the idea they could bring home more money in their paychecks!
