National Park Service Ranger Killed in Shooting Near U.S.-Mexico Border

The Associated Press

TUCSON, Ariz. Aug. 9 — A National Park Service ranger was killed Friday in a shootout with suspected smugglers near the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said.

The ranger was responding, along with the U.S. Border Patrol, to a call for assistance from Mexican authorities who were chasing two men in a vehicle that crossed the border into the Organ Pipe National Monument.

Authorities were still investigating what happened, and it wasn't immediately clear why the men were being chased.

Dale Thompson, chief park ranger at the monument, said the shootout took place about 100 yards north of the border in a rugged stretch of desert known for both drug and people smuggling.

The ranger's identity wasn't released.

LA BANDA DEL CARRO ROJO
Performed by Los Tigres del Norte
Dicen que venían del Sur en un carro colorado Traían cien kilos de coca iban con rumbo a Chicago así lo dijo el soplón que los había denunciado;

The first thing that has to be done is to stop the incentives for the illegals, welfare, free medical care, free education, etc. The next thing would be for W to tell el Presidente Fox that if he didn't do something to stop the flow of drugs, and illegals we would pull out of NAFTA in 6 months, and there would be no trade with Mexico, the border crossings would all be locked down. If that were done Fox would be tripping over himself to try to correct the problem, instead of his current policy of encouraging it.

But we all know that isn't going to happen unless the voters wake up and fire all the panderers of the illegals.

I'm all for volunteering, I used to live in Arizona and loved it. But would the government allow it if it's not on private property? I'm of the opinion we and Mexico (Fox) have an agreement to allow illegals in. It's Mexico's pressure valve, and provides American business with cheap labor. If the US truly wanted to close the border, it would have been done years ago.

If the fedgov stood aside, we could seal the border air tight at no cost in one month.

Just put out a call for volunteers to guard our southern border, "bring your own rifle and camping gear".

Put a bounty on heads brought back.

"...these men and women should be wearing bullet proof vests."

I agree with the sentiment, but remember...there's no such thing as a bulletproof vest. No body armor in the world will stop all bullets...even the body armor the Army and Marines wear is designed to only protect against shrapnel and low-velocity ammo, like pistol rounds. Any medium or high powered rifle round will punch through a vest like it was aluminum foil.

Maybe I'm a wacko, but I believe the phrase "bullet-proof vest" has been intentionally ingrained into our national psyche, so that whenever a cop or soldier is killed while wearing his vest, anti-gun scumbag Marxist reporters can scream "...see?!? We have to keep people from getting these cop-killer bullets...there's no protection from them...", while in fact, any regualr rifle round will do the trick. A couple of days ago, a US soldier was wounded by small arms fire in Afghanistan, and the report we got from ABC was that the round must have passed through an arm hole in his "bullet-proof vest". I wanted to find the closest reporter and strangle him/her.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

A crime. An act of war is military in nature. This wasn't a military action. Mexican officials tipped off US officials to the act. Thus it wasn't an act of war. Simple really.

“In January of 1916 Villista forces raided a train coming from Chihuahua City, killing 17 Americans on board. On March 9th, Villa at the head of a force numbering about 450 raided Columbus, New Mexico killing 19 Americans.

On March 15th President Wilson ordered Brigadier General John J. (Black Jack) Pershing to cross the Mexican border in pursuit of Villa. A brash young lieutenant by the name of George S. Patton managed to get appointed to Pershing’s staff just before he jumped off. Most of the regular Cavalry units in the Western U.S., including the "Buffalo Solders" of the 10th Cavalry, participated in pursuit of Poncho Villa. On May 6th another band of Mexicans raided the town of Glen Springs, Texas, shouting "Viva Villa" and "Viva Carranza." To augment the defense of the Southern borders of the United States, Wilson began a call up of the National Guard beginning with Texas and Arizona and New Mexico units on June 18, 1916. Eventually the entire National Guard participated. The role of the National Guard troops was to patrol the border, secure towns and bridges thus freeing up the regular army troops for action under Pershing.”

"...these men and women should be wearing bullet proof vests."

According to the later article, the ranger was wearing "body armor". You should know however, that there is no such thing as a bullet proof vest. This ranger was shot with a rifle, and any of the vests that are practical to wear will not stop a high velocity rifle caliber bullet.

The best way to stop a rifle bullet is to kill the shooter.

"...should be wearing bullet proof vests"

I agrgee that our officers should have all the best protection available to them. But when confronted with high powered rifles, even the best of armor is easily defeated.

This is true, but if it provides them with some protection, it's better than nothing. It is very sad to see American personnel sacrificed at the altar of political correctness and cheap labor for greedy businesses.

Oh come on folks, the only people coming across that border are poor Mexican immigrants who want nothing more than a better life and a hand up. < /sarcasm >

For some reason the citizens of this nation can't get it through their heads what's going on here.

1. Our nation is being occupied by a foreign nation.  Whether by force or by simple numbers, our nation is being taken over by a foreign nation.
2. The foreign nationals who are flooding across our borders are NOT limited to a few poor people.
3. California prisons have a population that is over one third illegal aliens.
4. The serial rapist and murderer who entered the US a number of times to kill, was a Mexican national without papers.
5. The individual in this case is a suspect in a mass murder for hire.
6. It is known that a significant traffic of illegal drugs that will eventually reach our school children is coming across that border, for the most part unimpaired.
7. We know of two incidents within 48 hours of 09/11 in which 98 Iraqi nationals were taken into custody attempting to cross our southern border illegaly.
8. Our culture is being replaced by the Mexican culture as radio, televison, cable, business, education, print media and other services go Spanish.
9. Your and my money is being taken away from us each pay day in part to pay tens if not hundreds of billions of dollars each year to support illegal aliens.
10. There is an organized movement to break away parts of the United States into a separate nation called Aztlan.  Some political figures in California have voiced support for this.

I don't know what it will take for our populace to wake up.  It is clear that our leadership never will.

Combined the above facts indicate that our nation is being sold out not only by our leaders, but by the underground that supports this.  There are people who participate on this forum who support this.  As far as I am concerned, they are traitors to the nation I grew up in and don't wish to lose.

As for our leaders, I gave up on them when the likes of Bill Clinton wasn't bad enough to be removed from office.

There's nothing more to say.

What was it that was being smuggled? It might have been drugs.

As you'll note on the monument map a Mexican highway paralells the park, within a hundred yards or so, blocked by a couple of strands of barbed wire (unless it's been changed in the last few years). Cross border drug drops are simple. It's another part of the US which Americans, at least law abiding ones, can't frequent.

Thanks for thoughts on the Ranger that was killed. Sorry to hear about it. This is not the first open hostilities to break out on our border. So far we've been lucky. Our government is not being up front about what is happening down there. Our media looks the other way. It's shameful that this man had to die.

Por nada, chica. I reckon your version of Espanol and mine are a little more sympatico than that comiong north through the *tissue curtain* along Texas and Arizona.

If you get a chance check out the music of Jenni Rivera, particularly her signature tune *La Chacalosa*

Hers may be the best of the bunch, and along with her father, Pedro Rivera, and her brothers Lupillo and Juan, is among the most traditional of the Mexican epic music of the narcotrafficantes, and, with full brass banda trumpet and horn section accompaniment, is likely that which would be most familiar to the Villistas y Carrancistas of the North of the early part of the last century.

And if you're interested in the music of the ongoing difficulties in Chechnya and other mildly obscure musical accompaniment to such things, just let me know.
