National Park Service Ranger Killed in Shooting Near U.S.-Mexico Border
The Associated Press
TUCSON, Ariz. Aug. 9 A National Park Service ranger was killed Friday in a shootout with suspected smugglers near the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said.
The ranger was responding, along with the U.S. Border Patrol, to a call for assistance from Mexican authorities who were chasing two men in a vehicle that crossed the border into the Organ Pipe National Monument.
Authorities were still investigating what happened, and it wasn't immediately clear why the men were being chased.
Dale Thompson, chief park ranger at the monument, said the shootout took place about 100 yards north of the border in a rugged stretch of desert known for both drug and people smuggling.
The ranger's identity wasn't released.

My wife thinks I'm crazy but I say shoot a few hundred or thousand as they cross the border and there would be a dramatic decline in the number attempting to cross.
Chasing, capturing amd sending them back is the greatest waste of time and money that our already wasteful government spends.

Bush as done **NOTHING** about the situation on the border. It grows worse each month and he's too busy talking about his bogus free-trade legislation rather than securing our borders.
I blame him for this rangers death. Long ago he could have sealed the border, like we have done for Kuwait, South Korea, etc., yet he does nothing.

What really sucks is that the property owners down on the border face criminal prosecution for defending themselves against smugglers and Mexican military incursions. What's the deal with that?

We need a double wall, with electrified razor wire on top. I'm tired of people saying we can't enforce our borders. That is the chief responsibility of the federal government.

We'll see what the Bush administration's apathy for our security gets us in 32 days on the anniversary of 9/11.
Only 32 more days.

Actually, the opposite is true...he has done something--he has encouraged the passage of 245(i) Amnesty for Illegals. Since it failed earlier, he will re-encourage it shortly after the election. After all, he promised Vincente that he'd do it--and he meets with Vincente in a few days. He's gotta play nice to Vincente; Mexico needs all those millions of dollars illegals are sending back to Mexico; and we get to care for their medical needs, and educational needs, and social service needs.

Bush will probably say: "People of goodwill from our country and Mexico will apprehend the person or individuals responsible."

Yeah well, maybe you just haven't been aware of the "military" doing the shooting, from the Mexican side!

An act of war is committed against the US B.S. This was not an act of war. Public schools have really deteriorated lately.

Well the key here is that the "cactus pipe park" is almost 100% enclosed on the Barry Goldwater USAF (DOD) Bombing range we used to clear of UXO all the time. I have personally walked that entire range during my EOD career many a time in Ajo special land !.
This illegal invading trash has used that bombing range as a conduit to the north for decades. When we found em we held em or maintained contact with em till the range security weenies responded.
Many a time I had to order troops "not" to daisy chain our prisoners togeather with a det cord ring main.......and many a time I had to be ordered not to do the same when I was just a wingnut :o)
< Sarcasm > It's a damn good thing the FiBi's & BatFags were watching that AZ rancher capturing and holding illegals versus looking for illegal invaders themselves.......this could have been a FiBi/BatFag killed instead of "just" a Park Ranger.......< / sarcasm >
Stay Safe !

I am sure the President will announce his regrets and anger ... like when the five Americans were killed at that Israeli university.

So much of this illegal immigration is about drug running. Why are we spending billions of dollars for a drug war and then keeping the borders wide open to the drug cartels? If we need a few lettuce pickers, we could have a guest worker program that allows those certain few in after careful background checks but the border should be sealed. Otherwise just call off the drug war ---it's like we want to lose it.
