Which State is the Armpit of America?

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.
They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.
Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?
Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.
Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

Not true. We get thundersnow here in Michigan. I remember back in 1991 while I was at Michigan State, we had a thundersnow storm while there was a tornado watch. It was incredible! We had snowball fights with snow falling- and thunder and lightning!

I going to a dinner engagement in a while, I sure hope the limo driver is on time this time.....Is that just a Californian way of saying that you are going to Pizza Hut and you're waiting for your best friend to pick you up in his car?

It's called "Michigan Weather" for a reason.

Lower cost of living, New England history and culture without being looked down upon as badly, the charm of all things small like Liechtenstein or Monaco; Newport; Narragansett Bay; Block Island. Everyone loves an island, even if in name only, leads to insular mentality.

No it's my way of saying if you never been here, your voting blind....Come on out to my ranch for a heap good time...Yes, Cal has it's problems, but what state don't?
To: Paul Atreides
Well, Bud, when I said "a few good conservatives", I knew it was more than could be counted on both hands. However, I didn't have the demographics at hand or I would have pinpointed it down.Well...I hate to be a stickler for detail here, but 4.5 million people isn't even close to the fingers on both of my hands. Yours?
I mean, you were just trying to make it sound like very few Californians are conservative. That's not even close to the truth. The whole Central Valley is very conservative. Heck, Free Republic was founded here! It's really only two small, very heavily populated areas that rule California, LA and SF.
How do you think we 4.5 million Californians feel that our state is a winner-take-all state when it comes to electoral votes? It makes us feel like our vote does not count.

California is the crown jewel of this great country. If any state is worth fighting for, it's California!
To: crystalk
also great Italian food everywhere in little restaurants, Old World atmosphere. Is it upscale English (Henley? Oxbridge?) or is it Naples?
To: handk
You out of staters really follow that garbage?
To: Husker24
The nose hole.
To: luckodeirish
Yeah but 187 passed by a hugh majority. That in itself says something about the folks in Cal!
To: Joe Hadenuf
California must be placed very low, for it has all the DISadvantages of retiring in Mexico, with also all the DISadvantages of retiring in the most expensive places in the USA, without having the ADvantages of either.
I view that it has seceded, or been conquered, I would like a FEW of my own kind around, just to raise and lower the flags.

I am sorry to say that Terre Haute, Indiana is truly the armpit of America. Armpits stink, and Terre Haute stinks, too. Truckers driving by on I-70 laugh about the foul odor coming from the town. People claim that the stench comes from a creosote plant and and the waste treatment plant. But I suspect that the dirty politics has a little something to do with it. Yep, it's a Dem town and county. The economy, of course, sucks. Their two local heros are Eugene V. Debs and Paul Dresser (Dreiser). I can still feel the wrath of a prof who corrected me for saying that Dreiser was a socialist.
