Thanks, Coby - I'm going to post my ping list to this thread for TexanaRED - I know that many of us are getting many pings from multiple FReepers - I hope that no one minds. It's for such a good cause. Devastating for TexanaRed. Some of you may remember her from the Inauguration Ball in DC. She's the one in the red hat, second from right.
If you would like to help:

Billie - thanks for the ping, and yes, I've had multiple pings to help Texanna - but if anyone wants to complain, tell them to grow up! This is a devastating flood, and who would be so unkind as to care if they were pinged twenty times?!!! Ok, I feel better now......lol

"who would be so unkind as to care if they were pinged twenty times?!!! " I wonder how they would like it if that thing they were getting pinged on was under three feet of water?
I have no patience with some people!
This is serious stuff!
I know it's been said that she can get funds from the emergency relief fund that is going to be instituted.
How is she supposed to live until she can fill out all the paper work necessary to be included in that fund?
The only people who have time to fill out the forms are the people who are on welfare to begin with.
I will talk to my son as soon as he gets off at the fire station in Kerrville and give everyone an update on the situation.

May I suggest you send the picture Billie posted in #463 by e-mail to your son to identify her, remembering you said somewhere you needed her name to give him?
Since Kerrville is not a metropolis, he has to know her.
Perhaps when you call him you can give him a heads up for the e-mail.

LadyX, I think I'll send Mitch a picture of her because I know that Kerrville is not a metropolis and Mitch probably knows her.
(Darn, I hate to get upstaged by a woman who has more common sense than I do!! I would have never thought of that in a million years)

I remember a few years back when both the 99 and 5 were closed due to fog....and a big time major accident (yearly occurance unfortunately) on 5. Pea soup.
Love your little kitty graphic. :o)

What a terrible thing to have happen.
Floods devastated Missouri a few years back.
Hopefully, we freepers can make life easier for her.
Thanks, Cobby.

"that happen a lot Mister?: You don't really expect me to admit that, do you?
LOL!
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, let's go to press:
Talking to my son in Kerrville, he says the Guadalupe River has risen about ten feet today.
That means that the people downsteam of the Guadalupe River, like New Braunsfels, will see a wall of water cresting at over ten feet sometime tonight or tomorrow.
The Medina Dam is NOT broken. The water you see on TV coming around the dam is coming over the spillway which was designed to do just that.
The water is about three feet below the Medina Dam.
Canyon Lake will see the same wall of water that is currently coming downstream at Kerrville.
He said TexanaRed's house was probably on one of the creeks which runs into the Guadalupe River, and her's was not the only house washed away.
On a side note, while working today he witnessed the Red Cross giving out hot coffee while one of the local churches in conjunction with Wal-Mart were feeding people with fried chicken.
The Red Cross does have emergency shelters set up, but I guess it's too much trouble to try to feed the people who are trying to save their possessions.
Heck, they can survive on coffee!
Didn't some other bureaucrat once say, "Let 'em eat cake?"

...who've been so proud to speak of the lovely women in their lives. Proud and Honored to speak those words.
Mrs. DD and our three daughters have raised me quite well, me thinks.
And it shows. You're a special guy.
And a fortunate one to have three special women in your life.
'Course, I don't have to tell 'you' that. : )

I experienced a horrendous tornado in Wichita Falls in 1979.......McDonalds had a huge tractor trailer that had been turned into a "rolling McDonalds" that they drove right into one of the hardest hit areas, where they served food, totally free of charge, to anyone who could get to them......... there were many other companies that jumped right in and helped out......... the Red Cross gets all the publicity, but so many other organizations and businesses help so many people during a disaster..........
Perhaps donations to local churches to help them defray costs would be an idea over sending to the Red Cross (as if any freepers would still do that!)........
Glad your son is ok........

Thanks, I've gotten several pings about TexasRED and I'll do what I can to help.
What a terrible loss.....her home & dear pets. The Hill Country of Texas is so beautiful but 'Mother Nature' can be cruel when those torrental rains come!
Thanks be to God that she got out in time.
To: WhyisaTexasgirlinPA
I remember that tornado in Wichita Falls, Texas Girl.
I was just a little tyke, but I have a good memory
(haha).
I wouldn't give the Red Cross the perspiration off my private parts, and that goes for the United Fund, also.
I give to the Salvation Army, the VFW, FR and the church.
When anyone of those becomes a bureaucracy that feeds off the people instead of feeding the people in whatever form, I'll cease my donation.
