A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 7-03-02

A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

"ONE OF FREE REPUBLIC'S FINEST"
How do you spell FUN? How do you spell FUNNY? How do you spell GENEROUS? How do you spell CHIVALROUS? How do you spell SENSITIVE? How do you spell PATRIOT? How do you spell CONSERVATIVE? How do you spell PROUD TEXAN?
Well, some of us spell it L-O-D-W-I-C-K
Lodwick is a mostly daytime FReeper. He spreads his charm around to many threads including, but not limited to, The Guild, The Canteen, and The Freeoples. His FReeping is often in competition with The List (things to do, often requested by Mrs. L.), with FReeping usually winning out, at least until shortly before Mrs. Lodwick returns home. His contributions to the threads include photos, food preparation tips, product information and a whole lot of caring and sharing. He is also old-fashion chivalrous, often coming to the rescue when a FReeper is rude or obnoxious to a lady and demands that said disruptor behave as a gentleman or leave.
.
He is an enthusiastic fundraiser, participating in the Quarterly Fund Raising Event (aka the Freepathon). In fact, his Profile Page includes this statement: "Becoming very upset that more folks are not pulling their weight by donating monthly to support the finest conservation website on the internet." He espouses this view often in his daily postings. Currently, he is working hard to BRING BABY BILLY HOME.
Lodwick, you are a FRiend to many of us and brighten our days. Your generous contributions to various efforts have made a difference in many lives.
We Love Ya, Bud. Enjoy your day in the spotlight.

What is an AMERICAN?
Posted on 7/3/02 10:19 AM Central by Hillary's Lovely Legs
The Fourth Of July is coming, so this may be appropriate. American
The following was said to be written by a dentist in Australia.
An American
"You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. So I just thought I would write to let them know what an American is, so they would know when they found one.
An American is English, French, Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Australian, Iranian, Asian, Arab, Pakistani, or Afghan. An American may also be a Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.
An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses. An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American is from the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each man and woman to the pursuit of happiness.
An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need. When Afghanistan was overrun by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country. As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. The best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best athletes.
Americans welcome the best, but they also welcome the least. The national symbol of America welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America. Some of them were working in the Twin Towers in the morning of September 11, earning a better life for their families. [I've been told that the people in the Towers were from at least 30, and maybe many more, other countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.]
So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and every bloodthirsty tyrant in the history of the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.
So look around you. You may find more Americans in your land than you thought were there. One day they will rise up and overthrow the old, ignorant, tired tyrants that trouble too many lands. Then those lands, too, will join the community of free and prosperous nations. And America will welcome them!
Pass this around the World!
WELL WE SAY " IN UNITY THERE IS STRENGTH".

Thank you for the Eric Update. Your love and pride in your son is a joy to see. And it is SO NOT misplaced.....And what a unique opportunity to hear about the Boot Camp Experience first hand (well second hand I guess). I hope you are saving all these recaps so that you can add them to Eric's scrapbook-Won't his grandkids love to read them someday?
Memo to Billie and Mama_Bear: Can we do an update on Eric every step of his military career? His Mama can send a new picture at every milestone and we can feature him along with exerpts- a sorta refresher on ERIC. The first milestone will be his graduation from Boot Camp. What a unique opportunity for us to follow a soldier from enlistment all through his career....Good Idea, Yes? Thanking you in advance for your agreement...lol...(Perhaps some of Lodwick's humility needs to rub off on me)
To: Aquamarine; lodwick
Not to burst your bubble, Lodwick, but if George Jones were a FReeper he would be in the spotlight today, and most days, lol....'Morning Aqua....I knew you would enjoy the Thread today....

I hope you are saving all these recaps so that you can add them to Eric's scrapbook-Won't his grandkids love to read them someday?I hadn't thought of that Miss Scarlett! Thanks for the idea!
However, I do not like the thought of Eric's having grandchildren......I would have to be 112 by then.... :o)

I've given 'strict' instructions to Billie and the other charming hostesses....
....that I am NOT to be named a 'Finest'.
My fifteen minutes of 'fame' would only inflate my ego.....
....more than it is. LOL
Uh....you do know I'm kidding....right?

'Morning, TLL. Morning, BBB. : )

'Morning Billie. Glad you like the thread today. I posted it last night, started at 10:30 PST and, as you can see, it was almost midnight by the time it got here...LOL...No problems with your excellent instructions, just that my brain does not work as well at night as during the day....Next time I will revert to posting it early in a.m. (well early PST).

HUMILITYlodwick????? hahahaha!!!!
To: Billie
Morning Billie. You won't believe this, but it looked like that sun winked at me. I think I'll go back to bed. :-)
To: lodwick
It with deep respect that I salute you, Jim. You are our biggest support. You have not forgotten our troops and have given the Guild their button. You are a joy and a true friend. You are truly a blessing. I can't type anymore or I will just get all sappy on ya.
To: The Thin Man; Diver Dave; lodwick
"Congrats, lodwick, or maybe my condolences,"LOL...At the very least, as suggested by Dave earlier, he will have physical problems from taking all those bows....Also his fingers will ache from answering all the pings.....Not to mention the eyestrain from reading it all....And the stress from wondering if he has answered all his pings....Wow, what have we done to our FRiend...hee hee...
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
Thanks C. And thanks for stopping.
You were making my monitor get misty.
Have a great day, and a better tomorrow. JL

Glad you like this site. We certainly are glad you "found us" and are getting very used to seeing you daily....Glad the poison oak is better and hey, good news, a 4 day weekend is coming up and Mama_Bear will kick it off in high style tomorrow....
To: daisyscarlett; lodwick
Daisyscarlett: Fantastic thread! So glad for the chance to learn more about lodwick.
Howdy lodwick!
This 'Yankee' (I was born in NYC & spent the first 20 years of my life there) had the pleasure of living among you darling Texans for several years. I will always remember the friendliness & warm welcome I received when my family moved to Houston.
Congratulations....enjoy your special day!
Here's my wish for you:
A fresh pot of coffee you didn't make yourself. An unexpected phone call from an old friend. Green stoplights on your way to work or shop.
I wish you a day of little things to rejoice in... The fastest line at the grocery store. A good sing along song on the radio. Your keys right where you look.
I wish you a day of happiness and perfection--- little bite-size pieces of perfection that give you the funny feeling that the Lord is smiling on you, holding you so gently because you are someone special and rare. I wish you a day of Peace, Happiness and Joy.
To: daisyscarlett
Oh, yes! Stickman - another of JL's favs!
You did great, Daisy - love to come here and see how much everyone enjoys seeing who's "IT" today!
