Why would you be upset that Jim does not personally share our concernI guess I expected more from someone I truly respect and admire. I just didn't expect that response to this ever escalating crisis. I guess I was hoping for a true heavy weight to help support the fight against one of the most dangerous, threatening issues facing this great country.
To: viaveritasvita
Well, that's the whole purpose of FR. I do not think it's too late. Free Republic is looking to the ballot box and the court to solve these issues. I want to work within the framework of the Constitution. I do not believe that an overthrow or violence is the answer and do not believe that it would solve the problem. In fact, I believe any such attempt would probably destroy what's left of our rights to self-government.

Isn't the 17th amendment about the direct election of senators? I don't get the brohaha.Yep, it is and the elimination of state control over the election of senators has resulted in senators being influenced by major lobbying groups. You want REAL campaign finance reform? Eliminate the 17th Amendment. Senators used to have to answer directly to their states. Now, as you know, big money donors from, say, California or New York can have a major influence on a state election.
Once a senator is elected, he/she practically has the job for life. The concerns of the state have very little influence on them any longer. Bring things home closer to the people.

Since JR is not a racist, immigration is not a huge concern of his. Neither is it of mine.
Brilliant. Thanks for weighing in on this.

It's my personal opinion. Free Republic does not have an official opinion. The FReepers speak for themselves. << <<
Even if the guy at the top isn't really interested (and I say that respectfully) I would imagine most freepers consider it to be an important issue and are in favor of strongly limiting immigration and tightening our borders. And you're correct, it's not just an issue in the southwest, but throughout most major states from Illinois to Georgia to Pennsylvania
Which, of course, would all parallel the mindset within the Republican Party.

(Thread Pulled, JR doesn't like VDARE) We took that to mean we cannot post anything from their website.VDARE frequently and consistantly strays from legitimate immigration issues into thinly disquised racist propaganda. I strongly support JimRob's decision to ban posting of their articles on this forum. I also urge others with legitimate immigration concerns to denounce association with VDAREs twisted views.

There is one thing that would completely change the whole immigrant issue, and end the threat to our American culture:
The end of abortion.

After this November, the following will be off this list: Bob Barr (if he loses to Linder in the primary), John Cooksey (unless he drops out of his senate race against Sen. Landrieu), Lindsey Graham (very likely to be the next junior senator from South Carolina), Tony Hall (appointed to the Bush Administration), Robin Hayes (if he can't hold off his general election opponent in a Democrap gerrymandered district), Brian Kerns (lost in primary), Marge Roukema (retiring), Bob Schaffer (retiring), and Bob Stump (retiring). You'll also note that RINOs (as some have called them) Shays, Roukema, and Norwood are on this list.

Joe says: I guess I was hoping for a true heavy weight to help support the fight against one of the most dangerous, threatening issues facing this great country.
JimRob says: If you want to have a right to control or block immigration, abortion, gun grabbing, land grabbing, or whatever issue is important to you in your own state, then I think you should start by doing something about replacing the liberal activist judges that make all this balony possible. How do you do that? Deny the liberals a majority in the Senate. Deny them control of the Congress. Keep them out of the Whitehouse. Deny them control of your local governments.
Looks like JimRob gave you his solution to your singular problem by taking the bigger approach. It doesn't fit your agenda maybe but can have the same effect and also impact a larger array of other problems. So you choose to approach it one way and JimRob another. Too bad you have to feel so: "extremely saddened and distressed by Mr. Robinson's response and lack of concern regarding this issue."

All......
This country we are now losing, was born of a revolution, with violence if you will. Are we to condemn our own birthright???? Our Founding Fathers would be ashamed of us for our timidity. Only 30 per cent of the colonists supported, bled and died for the revolution. The other 70 percent sat on the sidelines, wringing their hands, all the while waiting to join the victor, like vultures awaiting the spoils.
Prior to the revolution, the majority were willing to forego freedom, bow to the King in servitude and pay whatever taxes were levied. Fortunately for us, some were willing to give their all, and now we squander it away.

So, you're not a racist, but you are a homophobe?
Unjustly labeling people with leftist namecalling is not so appealing when it's done to you.

"Last time I checked, it was still a state right. Unless of course everyone wants a Federal ID with a chip in it." Actually I think it is downright frightening just how many Americans seem to think that that's a good idea. As to issuing driver's licenses and state ID's to illegal aliens, it seems that that may be a little fuzzy. One of the few legitimate roles of the federal government is protecting our borders and while the rights of individual states should supercede the feds in most things, I'm not sure this is one of them. Some crimes become federal crimes when they involve the crossing of state lines. The fact that illegals cross the national border to enter the country puts it in the category of a federal crime to begin with, in which case it seems to me that the states, rather than legitimizing people who have started out in this country in violation of our law, should be the point of contact whereby these individuals are outed and returned to their country of origin which is most often Mexico. Personally, I find it very scary that the majority of these people believe that they already have rights to the states of California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas and think they're under no obligation at all to honor our laws.
To: Jim Robinson
It's my understanding that when the states along the southern border have attempted to take control of the immigration problem that they are repeatedly hobbled in one way or another by the feds and even the ongoing violation of individual property rights against landowners on the border are being tolerated by the feds. So it doesn't seem to me that the federal government is in any way giving deference to states' sovreignity here.

I guess I expected more from someone I truly respect and admire. You expected more...what?
More conformity with your opinions, that's what.
We all know Jim's a great man. When Jim agrees with us on an issue, we feel validated. It's an "atta-boy" and a thump on the back from the Big Man; it's a blessing from Dad. You're disappointed because you were expecting that emotional lift. You didn't get it, and now you're hurt. "How could he do this to me? The problem can't lie with me or my views...so perhaps he isn't so great, after all. But unfortunately, most people think he is, so I'd better call public attention to his backsliding."
To: AAABEST
Here's my point.........I don't get swayed by an argument because someone says.....I believe this or that and Jim Robinson agrees with me!!!! And the opposite is true as well.......just state your point and don't use someone else's opinion to bolster your own position.
To: Jim Robinson
"Repeal these two amendments, give the states back their representatives, eliminate the income tax, and you defund and defang the beast." But how, Jim. They love the power and they aren't going to lie down and allow it to be taken away from them. It gets very discouraging at times.
