Tribute to Vietnam Veterans....Please click on picture

The great intangible of America's wars beyond logistics, beyond strategy, beyond wonder weapons and Generals, is the spiritual force of its fighting men and women - and that is the force that the USO so serves.

Hey, Snow! Here's one - the broom tied to the periscope shears indicates a "clean sweep," or the destruction of all targets possible.

Paul McCartney has been a champ in supporting the U.S.
in our War on Terror since 9-11.

Congratulation, Paul! I wish you and your new wife the very best!

Castle is romantic setting for McCartney wedding
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/698132/posts

Excerpt:

McCartney, 59, and his 34-year-old fiancee smiled bashfully for the applauding crowd Monday as they briefly spoke of their impending marriage.

McCartney said his brother Mike would be best man. Mills said she had helped make her own dress.

"I designed it, working with a couple of wonderful women," she said.

The rock star, whose mother was originally from Monaghan, added: "We are not going to worry about the rain, we are going to have a good time."

Three tents and a dance floor have been built along the side of the lake set in about 1,000 acres of grounds. There is a helicopter pad for guests who don't want to drive to the remote location near the Northern Ireland border.

McCartney and Mills a model who lost a leg in a 1993 motorcycle accident met at a charity function where she was raising money to oppose land mines.

Before her accident, Mills helped set up a refugee crisis center in the former Yugoslavia. Later, she established the Heather Mills Trust to raise money for young disabled victims of war and provide artificial limbs for land-mine victims.

The recipient of several humanitarian achievement awards, Mills advocates a land-mine ban and counsels amputees.

In July 1898, a small boat fell beneath the waves in New York Harbor, off Staten Island. The event caused great celebration. For the boat was called the Holland, and she was designed to sink.

Ah! But the roots of The Silent Service go back even further than that!

Thanks for this thread Snow Bunny. I admire anyone who can work on a Submarine. I have such bad claustrophobia, I think I would go crazy. I don't think anyone could even get me to get in one.

Thank you so much for your post. I retired from the Navy 2 weeks ago and already miss it. Three Submarine tours, USS Pittsburgh (SSN-720), USS Alexandria (SSN-757) and USS San Juan (SSN-751), also did a tour on the USS Fulton (AS-11) and at the USS Nautilus Submarine Museum in Groton, CT. Loved submarines so much, I created a CD-ROM about submarines and sell it through my web site at Test Depth Media and at several museums. Take Care and God Bless.

GREAT Thread.

Wish my father-in-law had computer access so he could see this.

I've mentioned before that he served aboard the USS Tinosa (SS-283).

One of his sea stories he shared with us in April - While on patrol he was the first to spot an enemy ship while standing watch. For his efforts, the Skipper gave him a bottle of whiskey. Being a non-drinker, he stowed it away in his seachest. Somewhere along the line, someone stole the whiskey.

Wow!!! I just LOVE these posts. Todays, on our Submariners is just AWESOME!!!

This stuff should be in the Elementary Schools and High Schools as mandatory History!!! You all put this together so well, it would be FUN and exciting for them.

Thanks for all you do..and GOD BLESS YOU!!!

Also, I'm going to be sending this site to a young father we know who is deployed to Saudi Arabia right now. Darin is serving our Country, and I think he would LOVE this site. He misses his family.. he has 4 beautiful Children and a sweetheart of a wife. Darcy is at home handling the home fires. And I think they would really love the support offered here.

I'll go send him the address right now. He just went over there.. so this will be good timing now that he has an e-mail addy!!

Again.. I'm amazed and over thrilled at the work you all do. Thanks!!!
