Not sure if you know this, but the USS Wahoo was one of the best known American submarines during WWII. Was commanded by the legendary Dudley "Mush" Morton, XO was also the legendary Dick O'Kane, later the CO of the USS Tang (SS-306). Both are pictured in your photo.
