Just came in from the 12:20 AM showing of Sum Of All Fears. I am going to make this short and sweet. It could possibly be the biggest waste of time and money ever put on screen. Completely full of false info in the case of these actual events and it made anyone who was on the right wing seem like they prayed for doomsday.
Also made the Muslim who originally found the bomb from the shot down Israeli plane and sold it on the black market...the hero in the end because he gave up the buyer's name.
I could write for an hour about all of the things that were awful and wrong about this movie but why bother? I mean Ben Affleck aka Jack Ryan managed to outlive a nuclear blast and still use his cell phone and find his girlfriend at the same time!
About 1 minute total of explosion scenes....that is it. WASTE OF TIME!

Arlington Road...amazing chilling movie.

Agreed. The entire theater had about 30 people in it...for a midnight showing...ehhh...not too bad but there was 4 walk out's in the first 45 mins. I heard one guy get up and say..."That's enough for me..."

Rush was just saying last week that Clancy is one of the few writers who actually IS involved in the production process of any of his works. I doubted it when Affleck was cast as Ryan.

As soon as I saw affleck's named attached I made sure to stay clear of this bad boy. The guy didn't even bother to register to vote and he's going to play some form of hero? It's bad enough having to hear about him pontificating about politics..

Aflack's too much of a puppy dog. I'm still pissed over Pearl Harbor I waited a year, salivating at the thought of another "Midway" or "Tora, Tora, Tora" done up with all the coolest special effects and some gritty history.
Instead, we got a freaking "friends" soap-opra. And to add insult to injury they cast Alec "I can't seem to find my passort" Baldwin in the role of a true American Hero - Jimmy Doolittle! I cried during the movie - tears of anger, shame and disgust.

Well in a real blast about 1 minute is all it would take to kill possably MILLIONS so how much time do you need to wake people up ANY ATOMIC BLAST ON AMERICAN SOIL would be devistating to say the least so maybe 1 minute is all it would or will take for people to wake up to the fact its a real threat!
BESIDES this is just a movie
WHY IS IT our government feels we hafta wait for something to happen before we act on it ...Isnt that why the word PREcaution was created?

Well, that might explain why Harrison Ford abandoned Jack Ryan
Pity, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger are two of my favorite movies

Sorry to say we all went to see it tonight. If the book was realistic, this was a JOKE. What about the fact so many survived, without any imediate radiation burns or sickness. Yeah right. Could have been epic and they blew it!

Thanks for confirming my decision to boycott the movie. I hope others do as well. I'm tired of hollywad deciding what is and is not good for us to see on screen - especially when political correctness is involved. Great Ping Psyops...Passing it on...I'm glad Casablanca is in the can...Hollywierd can turn ANYTHING into a complete waste of celluloid if they politicize it...Freep on...I am still hacked off at the anti gun theme from Star Gate the movie!!!
OTOH The Stargate SG1 TV Series rocks, BTW!!!! one episode they used Benelli shotguns to break up little autonomous robots...the shooters actually wore SAFETY GLASSES!!! I was amazed they got that much firearms reality onto prime time TV...BR SS

My, My, I heard him say in an interview that someday he would like to run for President. That'd be a neat thing to do, be on stage all the time.
The last really good book turned movie I saw was Red October. I am so disgusted and have been for years, with Hollywood and the leftist PC jackasses who make movies that we don't go to movies. I refuse to make any contribution to thier success.

Remember, this is Phil Alden Robinson. The man who nearly ruined Field of Dreams with his political agenda. And I won't even get into Sneakers (pure leftist garbage)...

"Then I heard they were going to change the plot to keep from offending the arabs and muslims who had just knocked down the Twin Towers."
I refuse to see it for that reason alone. I refuse to support PC nonsense.

How Clancy allows his name still connected to this...beyond me. He just doesn't care after it leaves his hands.
His caring has nothing to do with it. Once something leaves your hands....you don't have control.

Ha ha ha. I guarantee you they didn't write, shoot, and edit this movie since 9/11. However, Tom Clancy was one of two executive producers. See www.imdb.com

You can hardly blame Affleck for the crappy script of Pearl Harbor. He didn't write it, and I can understand why an actor would take a role in what promised to be a huge blockbuster, even if the script stunk. He's been in great movies, and he's been in horrible movies. I think he's done an OK job in most of them.
There are plenty of examples of good actors in bad movies who still do their parts well, just as there are plenty of examples of bad actors in great movies. The Bible epics with Chuck Heston obviously had great material, but he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. The movies tend to be entertaining in spite of Heston.

it made anyone who was on the right wing seem like they prayed for doomsday. The most likely scenario to actually pull something like this off, besides the fundamentalist muslims, are the wacko greens. Affleck and Co. dare not put that on the screen.

Best movie on terrorism; Arlington RoadI agree, totally. After 911, seeing that movie again becomes relevant, to try to puzzle through the plot and figure out what is an appropriate line between nosiness and civic duty.
When we saw the movie, the theatre was close to sold out. Then, it disappeared...it's awful the way non-mainstream movies either aren't shown at all in the major theatres, or if they are, will be quickly removed for some hyped up waste of time.

How badly did the movie pervert Clancy's book? A movie that was faithful to the book could not be made in Liberal/Democrat Hollywood
Let's list some of the politically incorrect items from the book:
- Israeli jets in 1973 war flying around with nukes (can't make people nervous about Israel's nukes)
- Israel loses one of the nukes over Arab territory, never tells US about it so we could help find it
- Arab terrorist group obtains nuke, hoping to start WW-III between US and Russia, which would leave the Muslims as the most powerful group left standing
- Democrat prez having affair with his female National Security Advisor
- Female NSC is a catty, underhanded b*tch who gets her nose out of joint because Jack Ryan is insufficiently deferential to her, and decides to try to destroy Jack, and his marriage, thru sneaky games (can't have unpositive female role models)
- After the bomb goes off, Clinton-like prez and female NSC completely lose their heads from terror that someone was trying to take THEM out, and decide to order a nuke strike on Russia
- Ryan has to effectively stage an internal coup to stop WW3 (BTW, in the book Ryan is head of CIA, rather than just an analyst, which makes his being able to get on the hotline with the Russians MUCH more believable)
- Prez finds gets (false) info from captured terrorists that the attack was ordered by Islamic leader in Iran, and decides to retaliate by ordering a nuke strike on Iranian city. Ryan has to convince the SAC general that the Prez has lost his mind, in order to stop launch. Turns out it was a final attempt by terrorist leader to provoke a war between US and all of Islam
Bottom line: a movie which would portray a Dem Prez and a female senior govt official as unstable lunatics CANNOT be made in Hollywood

However, Tom Clancy was one of two executive producers. See www.imdb.com On C-SPAN I saw Clancy state that he had no control over how the movie was made, or how they adapted the script from the book. They may have put his name on it as "exec-producer" but I doubt it was more than an honorary title
