Vanity Post on Vanity Posts, Duplicate Posts, Trash Posts, Commie Propaganda, etc., Vol V, No. 1
Free Republic | Jan 25, 2002 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/25/2002 9:38:23 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Way too many vanity threads lately. And way too much trash being posted. Please try to stay on topic (politics). Also, please do a search on a significant word from the title of your article before posting. This will reduce the number of duplicates. And, along these same lines, please use the original titles on your article posts. Do NOT edit the titles. Do NOT use "My Title" titles. This will also help to reduce the number of duplicates.

And, whatever else you do, please DO NOT post from DEMOCRATS UNDERGROUND (or any other such trashy un-American socialist hangout). Free Republic was intended to be a socialist free zone. We've gone to a heck of a lot of trouble to make it that way. Why in the world would you think we would be interested in having their trash posted here?

And QUIT trashing each other. You know who you are. Knock it off! Way too many flamewars and feuds going on. And, while I'm thinking about it, QUIT trashing our conservative candidates. If you want to criticize someone's position on some policy, have at it. But do not trash or smear the man. That would include Browne, Buchanan, Bush, Keyes, et al, or whomever else may be your favorite trashee (examples listed in alphabetical sequence). The idea is to get more conservatives elected, not to trash the ones you don't like. If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat. Thank you.

And QUIT dredging up old communist propaganda to smear our conservatives. Sheesh! Whatever else you may think about our guys, they did not hijack airliners full of people and crash them into buildings. No, my friends, not even the dreaded CIA. Anyone who would believe (or even suspect) that crap is no FReeper. I've been pulling this crap whenever I see it and several people have been banned for continuing to post it. I do not want it on Free Republic. Any current FR poster who believes this leftist propaganda, please logoff immediately, send me your resignation via email, and I will delete your account.

Thanks,

Jim

It was posted under announcements/opinions, not breaking news. If Mr. Robinson had a problem with it, it would have been deleted. I see it's still up. Therefore, I wouldn't worry about how another poster thinks the forum should be run.

DynOmite post! You nailed it! However, I would like to respond to one thing you said which was:

I pointed out that the Republicans before Bush let government balloon way out of hand...

I am beginning to believe that Republicans, not only LET government balloon way out of hand, but endorse and support its expansion. A non-reversing trend in government growth is indisputable evidence for my belief -- bigger budgets, more programs, more taxes, more federal workers, etc., etc.

You may be correct in your conclusion that the vehicle for change is through the Republican Party, but as long as the majority public is content with government growth, which they apparently are, there will be no reversals. I'm afraid it is already too late and that real individual freedom is lost forever.

As I have stated countless times, conservatives gain far more traction holding Republicans accountable than by pouring honey over everything Republicans do simply because of their party name. We better start looking at results or freedom is at risk.

excellent post, SoA!

Over the past few months I have seriously thought about the possibilities of merging the libertarians with their thoughts and ideals into the republican party landscape. I have recently come to realize that this is a impossible task.

I don't know all the 15 letter terminology that purports to describe ones political leanings but I can tell you one thing I have learned. Libertarianism is not, repeat not, compatible with the republican party nor is it conservative in any of the ways that count politically.

What I believe it to be is a rebellious, sepratist movement whos true purpose is the overthrow of the current methods of government and the return to a wild west or Afgan style of anarchy.

I have tried and tried to make some sense of the unbelievable desires that some of these folks have. They justify everything by quoting the Constitution while they advocate a return to 18th century life. What a great move.

Return to that era would be not only ridiculous, but impossible with out a revolution or total collapse of the USA government. Even then, like the movie the Postman, the return to what was, is inevitable.

The only way to effect change is to work within the system. The folks I'm talking about hate the system and want to destroy it. Therefore they cannot be part of it. To be part of it you must give and take. I have found none of those qualities in libertarianism.

Just because a person is a supporter of the Preident doesn't mean you have to think he's right 100% of the time. On the Presidents amnesty proposal I'd support it IF I thought it would solve the problem. We tried it before and here we are still are 20 yrs later still talking about it. As I said before the answer is helping Mexico and other countrys improve their ecomonies so people won't want to sneek across our border.

Thank you Jim. The articles we post need to be gems we've found and want to share with our friends, not massive "dumps" that work to divide us.

Your keen understanding of how important FreeRepublic is is matched by you instinct on how to protect it. Thank you. I stand in awe of you sometimes. This is one of those times.

"There are a hundred other places on the web where you could go to talk with people about your pain. This just isn't the place. "

No, I beg to differ. Don Joe as well as all of us live in world polluted with liberalism. Here at FR there is an audience of commpassionite convservatives. This is PROVEN through all of the prayer threads and help threads. Name me one other site that would provide that to a hurting indvidual of conservative nature? The monster that FR has become since the "Glory Days" of impeachment that all the old timers revel about is due to the fact that it is one of the few places where people of like mind have been able to communicate with each other. "Like mind" meaning compassionate conservatives.

Returning the sanctity of FR Pre-election 2000 seems to me to be the root of this latest episode of "correction". There have been spurts and fits of a similar vein ever since I joined a little over a year ago.

If there are new rules, better to set them in stone than to selectivly enforce them. If selective enforement is used on vanities, more vanities will be posted.

You're right. When democrat professionals "trash" a site they don't take us on with ideas. They use conceptual social psychology. They demoralize us, try to destroy our sense of community. How? By listing massive articles on things no conservative cares about, presenting us to ourselves as a negative stereotype, posting stories that are "ads" for democrat causes, and trashing conservative leaders.

FreeRepublic can't become like a liberal newspaper -- where you pick it up, look for 4 or 5 minutes, realize there's nothing there for you, and feeling someone saddened by their portrayal of conservatives, put it down. This site was a place where conservatives could feel good about themselves and their beliefs. It's important. It matters. And that's why it's a target. I don't have facts on this, but the pattern of democrat dirty tricks is present.

Jim will save us one more time, but the battle must be exhausting.

It gets tiresome trying to find substantial threads. 61 posted on 1/25/02 11:49 PM Pacific by Ernest_at_the_Beach

You and I certainly have conceptualized "libertarianism" differently. I do not see libertarian and conservative (not Republican) thought to be at odds. My conception of of the political spectrum has a horizontal continuum that divides the Left from the Right, whereas a vertical continuum (which intersects at a 90-degree angle with the horizontal continuum) separates libertarians from authoritarians. This vertical continuum basically answers the question, "with whom does ultimate power and responsibility lie -- the government (group) or the citizen (individual)?"

Accordingly, this model divides us (conceptually) into 4 quadrants -- (1) Conservative-Libertarians, (2) Liberal-Libertarians, (3) Conservative-Authoritarians, and (4) Liberal-Authoritarians. I consider myself to be a Conservative, albeit, a Conservative-Libertarian. From this perspective, Libertarianism and Conservatism are not mutually exclusive. How does this paradigm fit with your understanding of these concepts?

Sooooooooowwweeeeeeee! Sounds like a lot of seven dollar words to me.

As I said, I have studied these labels and found them confusing. The basic definition of democracy is that the power ultimately belongs to the people. I will stretch my neck out and say that basically, we all believe that.

What we have in America is not a true Democracy, but a Representative Republic. In my opinion, it is a better and more efficient form of Democracy that is designed to grow and change with the needs of the people but not jump to every whim.

My problem with the libertarians is that they think more in the line of a democracy. One man, one vote. Anything else is unfair and un-constitutional.

To go to a pure Democracy would be a nice experiment for a small community but not a nation this size. It would be like having the country run by vote.com.

Conservatives work within the status quo to effect change. Libertarians are anti-status quo and work to change it by exposing it's weaknesses and replacing it with a circa 1800 limited government with 50 individulal democracies called states. What a mess!

I don't read books on this subject. My views are bases on exchanges that I have had on FR and other places with libertarians. Frankly, I don't think they know what the heck they are either. They only critisize and offer no solution except the Constitution and the BofR.

BTW....I forgot to mention that I went to that web site with all the vetical integration stuff and answered the questions. If I recall, I was labeled a liberal conservative with authoritarian leanings or some such stuff. Basically I was left and south of center but not much.

At one time, "conservatives" fought for smaller government and individual Rights in their efforts to conserve and preserve the original intent of the Constitution.

That was then; this is now. George F. Will kind of called it back in 1978, and alas it still applies only too well: Today's conservative has reached into his heart of hearts, prayed hard, and decided that it was high time the government cut his neighbour's benefits.
