You folks read to much into this election. I live in Missouri and have been viewing this Virginia election from afar. It appears that Early was a lackluster candidate who started in the hole to begin with. The Republicans have been in power for about 12 years and it is only natural for the voters to want a change. You folks in VA still hold the House of Delegates and you have a good chance to take back the govenor's office in four years. Cheer up and fight for what you believe in.

In what kind of forum should he have endorsed Earley? Attend rallies? Bush has better things to do right now! Where do you think those approval ratings would go if he was seen on the stump instead of spending all his time on the terrorist mess? By the way, do think his life being in danger might have been a little reason for him not to stump for Earley?

Come on now...there are some logical (although incorrect) reasons for Bush to not have stumped for Earley and Schundler, but for you to suggest that he did so for personal safety reasons when HE THREW OUT THE FIRST PITCH AND EXPOSED HIMSELF TO OVER FIFTY THOUSAND PEOPLE is somewhat implausible (I would say laughable, but we are in a spirit of unity)

Doubtful. Gilmore's negatives are what helped to put Earley behind in the first place. Yes, we know the blame goes with the RINOs in the Senate, but the perception is that the budget impasse was all Gilmore's fault...

One positive about this...if we in Maryland somehow elect a Republican governor (and it could happen...Ehrlich will be strong if he runs and Kennedy-Townsend is an airhead with shaky support even on the Dem side)...then we'll know THE END IS NEAR!!

I wish Bush would have made just one support statement for Early.

He did. He endorsed him back in the summer and sent a letter of support in the final days. But he didn't campaign for him.

I was one of the loudest calling for Bush to show up for Earley. Three weeks ago he could've turned it around.

No, it is not the President's fault that Earley lost, even though we'll hear McAuliffe and company spreading that swill tomorrow. But a vist by the President could've made a difference.

Yes, he has a war to run. And thanks to tonite's losses, he'll be running it with an approval rating well below his current 90%. It'll happen.

I was raised and educated in Virginia too! (Of course - I was heavily "liberalized" by my educational institutions - so that's a major minus for VA too).

You're right. Earley didn't set anybody's heart on fire. I've been all over VA in the last 2 months and from the mountains to the Tidewater everybody was talking about Warner.

It's hard to reconcile the majority of the populations of Virginia and New Jersey voting to elect Governors from the pervert party,but the fact is that these losses represent a failure by the national GOP to aggressively pursue these offices.

The GOP is concentrating on the survival of the USA, politics can wait until next year.The jackass party is concentrating on the survival of the jackass party

The northeast has been lost for a long time,anybody who still lives there deserves what they get.

In Virginia, perhaps Earley didn't appeal to women like Warner did.

Policy is seldom the determining factor when women vote.

You wouldn't say that if you saw them up close. Warner appealed to women because of traditional "women's issues" - he got the sucker moms, just like Bill Clinton did.

This race will not be a determining factor in the long run in 2002, but it will be pointed to over and over as a rejection of the GOP (as well as the President's) domestic agenda. McAuliffe has already started saying that.

We know better, but the sheeple don't.

The point is Bush didn't even try. He was "brave" enough to go to Yankee Stadium, he can't sit in the oval office and do ONE freaking tv commercial for the two candidates?
