The US embassy in Baghdad has warned its citizens to leave Iraq "immediately". It also urges anyone who is thinking about staying put to "reconsider".
"Iran and its aligned terrorist militias pose a major threat to public safety in Iraq. Attacks have occurred against US citizens, US interests, and critical infrastructure," it writes on X.
As we reported earlier, the embassy building was hit in an attack on Saturday - watch our video of thick smoke rising from the site below.
"Do not attempt to come to the Embassy in Baghdad or the Consulate General in Erbil due to the ongoing risk of rockets, drones, and mortars in Iraqi airspace," the embassy says.

the enemy (Islam) is already here on our own soil. Where do we run away to now? Why are so many people fooled into thinking Islam is somehow a Noble religion? It has been the central enemy of Civilization for over a thousand years. What use to be a major Christian Civilization, the last part of the Roman empire, was crushed by this common Islamic enemy. Persecution of Christians in the Holy land led to Crusades against these monsters! And yet treasonous Western leaders invite them in and give them free stuff in spite of all that rapey stabby stuff they bring with them .

I know some people stuck in Baghdad and Erbil as contractors keeping the embassy and consulate compounds running. They are their own little cities and have their own infrastructures. If the contractors have to leave, those places are done.

True. Civilian contractors who support them are being warned to leave by our State Department. I thought that would be obvious, given what I wrote, but I guess it wasn’t obvious to you somehow.
