First they asked, “Have you ever pretended to hold more progressive views than you truly endorse to succeed socially or academically?” Among the students they interviewed, 88% said yes.
Then they broke it down into specific questions:
80% said they’d submitted classwork that misrepresented their views to align with professors.
78% said they self-censor their own beliefs about gender identity.

Classic LSM though, the headline makes it sound as if it is the college students misrepresenting the researchers’ views but the article is about how the students have to censor their own views.
Always with the headline narratives.
Precisely.
Socialism is always about living a lie.
“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
“To know and not to know… to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies.”
— Orwell “1984”
I always told my kids who are now adults to tell the teacher what they wanted to hear. They are there to get a grade not to win a debate.
My youngest who is now is a PHD in biology took the time to write here is what you want to hear and here is what is true.
Young guys also fudge a bit or keep silent when trying to score with the ladies.
You posted what I was thinking.
“Seems like cheating to me.”
Seems more like going along to get along.
From my experience this is nothing new as I did it myself more than once back when I was in college (72-75). I specifically remember a lady prof in Texas History class who I verbally disagreed with on multiple occasions. However on one mid-term paper I towed the leftist line a bunch more than I would in class. She gave me a ‘B’ but explained it this way: ‘A’ for approved content; ‘C’ because she recognized that I was writing what she wanted to see not what I espoused. She verbally told me that she did not appreciate being ‘handled’.
This is the actual heartening point of the poll - that a good percentage KNOWS that there are different viewpoints, and how authority structures work.
The scary people are those that DON’T - and adopt the viewpoint of the authority figure without question.
Just was talking with several students at a public teachers college. They say that they totally censor their opinions, evaluations, and beliefs in the classroom. Their guiding principle is... what does the prof want?
It is a thorough regurgitating process. And they describe the profs as looking so pleased... as they think that they are actually making a difference.
Training for future middle management of corporate America and government jobs.
I think a key distinction between Conservatives and Progressives is that Conservatives actually know what Progressives believe. Oppose the death penalty? Support abortion? Tax the rich? Government health care? We know all of those positions, and we know why the Progressives think those are all swell ideas.
But ask a Progressive about Conservative views and the best that most of them can come up with is: "They're Nazis". That's about as deep as their understanding goes.
Most of societies problems today began with social media.
It’s only going to get worse.
Not cheating...regurgitating.
I was a political science major. We had Kurt Waldheim as a visiting professor for an international relations class.
In the class they taught that world politics revolved around “North/South tensions”. Basically, haves verses have nots. This ideology states that economic tensions are paramount.
The counter ideology hold that “East/West tensions” are what drives international relations. East/West refers to difference in economic ideology, or Communism verses Capitalism. I believed in East/West, but was taught that North/South was correct.
In my final exam essay related to this topic, I wrote that “in this class we have been taught that North/South tensions drive international relations, but I still personally believe that North/South factors are created by East/West tensions...that conflict between adherents of Communism and Capitalism create North/South tensions, thus the originating cause is choice of economic systems.”
I got an F on the essay question and my grade in the class dropped from an A to a C, all because I would not say that I believed what was being taught. I understood it, but I didn’t believe it.
They don’t want you have knowledge, they want you to embrace their ideology.
The future is in fact East of Suez where North South tensions do not really apply
That’s pretty good news!!
You have to hide your views from your twisted professors. I had to hide my views a lot from my fellow attorneys and people assumed because I was a female lawyer, I was a liberal, which I was not. I can still remember at a bar meeting some witch lawyer saying Bush was not her President and me saying well he is my President. So sick of liberals. Mentally ill.
I learned and did it 35 years ago for the lit class “analyses” assignments we had to write for the commie profs. Had to write what they wanted to read if you wanted better than a “C”.
