Was the Current Madness Birthed in the University?
American Greatness ^ | Sept 15 2025 | victor davis hanson

America is currently sick.

The young conservative organizer and media personality Charlie Kirk was just murdered in a political assassination by a 22-year-old ‘anti-fascist’ and trans advocate, Tyler Robinson. As planned, he eliminated the most astute and successful political activist in a generation. Indeed, Kirk may well have ensured that Donald Trump won the 2024 election by not just increasing his youth vote by 6 percent since 2020 but, more importantly, by margins in the swing states of 15-24 percent, ensuring Trump’s victory.

No sooner was he killed than thousands on left-wing social media erupted in celebration—among them scores of teachers and professors. Their venom was eerily reminiscent of their earlier canonization of left-wing murderer Luigi Mangione. Recall, Mangione was the spoiled nepo baby who lethally ambushed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Thereby, he became an icon to the Left as a social justice warrior fighting the evil capitalist system, which had so enriched himself and his own family.

Such utter moral bankruptcy was on display as well by the social media praise of Palestinian activist Elias Rodriguez (“Free Palestine”), after he brutally murdered a young Jewish couple at the Jewish museum in Washington, D.C. Rodriguez supposedly showed the world how to deal with Zionists—reifying the hateful rhetoric that pervades the modern campus.

Was that ghoulishness confined to such anonymous left-wing nuts and fringe trolls?

Not really.

MSNBC’s guest “analyst,” Matthew Dowd, casually raised an asinine suggestion that the lethal shot came from a Kirk supporter firing off a round. And then, in Pavlovian fashion, he blamed the assassination of Kirk—on Kirk himself—for being an unapologetic “divisive” activist.

Ping! Out to the Victor Davis Hanson list

Or is the promulgator the Democratic Party and the Left, out of power, impotent, and angry that their superior intelligence and morality are not properly appreciated by 51 percent of the people? Who put a photoshopped Trump on a New Republic cover as Hitler?

Lots of questions that lead us to the answer ... by the Socratic method. Who wants us dead?

This murder is something we can lay at the door of the US ‘media’. The media has always had a great latitude in it’s function and in exchange they are meant to keep everyone honest. They have for decades failed to hold up to THEIR end of that bargain. But, they still enjoy the many (and increasing) perks they are guaranteed.

Consequently, people like Kirk (though he represents the pinnacle of this movement) step into the breach and speak for moderation and for balanced, sober discussion of facts. These people take the place of a media that has long since voluntarily and openly surrendered its position in this culture.

He never told people to think his way, but rather to think their own mind and to know that they are not howling in the wilderness. When in college, I never was courageous enough to feel that anyone else held the same views that I did. No one was there for me me!

Silencing one voice will not end the effort. If anything, the Conservative element will certainly consolidate its status and move forward with greater energy...thanks to Charlie Kirk.

Nothing will take the place of Charlie Kirk, he’ll be remembered with gratitude and love. No one deserves what was done to him.

The marxists did not just do the long march through the universities. They have infiltrated most institutions.

Yes. It started at the Iveys in the 60’s with anti-Vietnam war and then morphed into full blown communisms. The ark of the Alinsky radicalization of Hillary Clinton is the paradigm for this. And the greatest generation let us down because they turned power over to these soulless power mad demons.

I will argue that “they” control most institutions.

Rather than attempt to regain the institutions, a better course is to just destroy progressives where they live

There can be no peace so long as they survive

Years ago, there was violence and threats in universities when people like Ann Coulter came to speak. It was evidence to me that political violence would worsen. Still, it seems sudden to me, even after many years of threats and rage.

AOC, Mamdani, and the others and the latest assassin, too, are all reportedly DSA.
The DSA has a big trans contingent, apparently easy to recruit.

Funny how no one ever reports on the DSA.

Actually it all started at Berkeley and then spread to the Ivy leagues... Communist Chinese ideology infiltrated the Sierra Club and Berkeley and spread out from there.

I was amazed at this summary from AI, amazed at its accuracy.

“AI Overview

The “everlasting covenant” in Isaiah 24:5 refers to the foundational, implicit covenant God made with humanity at creation to live according to His laws, which all people have broken through disobedience. This refers to a broken covenant between God and the world, distinct from the more specific covenants with Abraham or Israel. Humanity’s failure to honor this universal covenant led to a temporary separation from God and brought about the judgment described in the passage.”

One theologian referenced this and said breaking the everlaslting covenant occurs comes when evil is called good, and good is called evil.

Today, for example, in the United States, desexing and destroying the young is called good, and trying to protect these young is called evil. The judgment alluded to is the legal recourse God uses to step in and stop things.
