Governor Ron DeSantis is heading to Boise, Idaho on Monday, reportedly as part of a campaign to build support for a federal Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which would require the federal government to spend no more than it collects in revenue.
DeSantis is leading a coalition of Republican governors supporting the amendment through the nonprofit Balanced Budget Now, which he launched alongside Idaho Gov. Brad Little and Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt and introduced to the Republican Governors Association. The campaign seeks to promote a federal Balanced Budget Amendment either through congressional approval or a convention of states under Article V of the U.S. Constitution.
The effort began with a letter sent to Congress in January and signed by all 26 Republican governors in support of President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, and urges Congress to enact spending reforms aimed at eliminating waste and reducing the national deficit.
The letter praised the federal initiative, led by Elon Musk, and stated that Republican governors “stand ready to help DOGE—and Congress—be successful.”
The governors also signaled that amending the U.S. Constitution is the only direct way states can assist in balancing the federal budget, referencing Article V as a potential path forward.

Article V ping!
This Amendment is a really bad idea. US need to be able to use debt in the event of war.
I love Vance. I think I love DeSantis even more.
For every crisis, the USA has produced a Great Man to save her and her people. God has surely shed His grace on America.
So very true.
Bad idea to get involved in foreign wars. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, etc were all stupid involvement with nothing positive results to show. Just more national debt.
Say good bye to tax cuts. The logic of the Laffer Curve gets thrown out of the window.
Governors attempting to build political capital telling the Feds how operate the gubmint.
Which I don’t necessarily have a problem with.
But how ‘bout Governors LEADING their own states by establishing a model of election reform.
Universal Voter ID, restricting mail-in ballots to military, paper ballots, and eliminating same day registration should NOT have to be mandated by the Feds.
I’m for balancing the budget, but it won’t be done by amendment.
Trump is on the RIGHT track for balancing the budget by cutting back gubmint and dealing with our OBSCENE trade deficit.
Trump is right, our trade deficit with Canada is foreign aid which is a to supposed ally.
Our trade deficit with the Chicoms is nothing other than aiding and abetting our greatest enemy.
Governors I beg you STOP TALKING, STOP POSING and get the states involved in election reform.
Or maybe that would take the balls you do not possess.
Facts are facts, the uniparty is not a swamp or DC thingy.
The uniparty will resist election reform at any level, federal or state.
Bad idea to get involved in foreign wars. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, etc were all stupid involvement with nothing positive results to show. Just more national debt.

Well I definitely agree with that, but we need to be able to defend ourselves.
This is mainly a good idea but there needs to be a clause that would allow borrowing with an xx% of Congress approving.
For a Convention of the States dedicated to Georgia’s application language, which would re-balance citizens’ rights and state powers versus federal power, the count is 19 down, 15 to go.
For a Convention of the States dedicated to a balanced budget amendment only, the count is 28 down, 6 to go.

I should note that several weeks ago, one House of the Idaho Legislature turned down this application for fear it could turn into a "runaway convention" and go places not intended by the state's application. Gov. DeSantis is there to get the legislature to reconsider the application.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Since Gov. DeSantis is willing to amend the Constitution, he actually needs to support PDJT47 in leading the states to put a stop to Congress's ongoing abuse of the 16th Amendment (direct taxes) by repealing that amendment, since it has resulted in a tsunami of unconstitutional federal taxes imo.
The 16th Amendment is not only the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for organized crime, but has facilitated the erosion of our 4th Amendment protections imo.
We'll call the repeal amendment Trump's Boston Tea Party II Amendment.
"16th Amendment: The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived [emphasis added], without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
"4th Amendment: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
The congressional record shows that Rep. John Bingham, a constitutional lawmaker, had clarified the federal government's constitutionally limited powers as follows.
”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)
"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]." —United States v. Butler, 1936.
“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves [emphasis added]. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)
Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." (non-FR; 6 sec.)
Illegals are indeed getting immediate Social Security, contrary to Democrat claims (7.11.24)
Democrats [and RINOs] Are Terrified Of An Educated And Informed Public (3.12.23)
Regardless that the crooks are probably going to lose interest in getting elected to DC when their pot of gold disappears, the 17th Amendment (popular voting for federal senators) can disappear too.
“…the nonprofit Balanced Budget Now, which he launched alongside Idaho Gov. Brad Little and Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt.”
I had no idea that Gov. Little was taking a leadership role on this. That is great news. The two Reps from Idaho have been disappointingly silent on DOGE and the effort to control the government.
There would no doubt be exceptions for war. Maybe only declared war.
I agree that Priority #1 should be election integrity. Without that, nothing else really matters.
I agree that Priority #1 should be election integrity. Without that, nothing else really matters.
The problem with a balanced budget Amendmentis getting Congress to follow the amendment.
Balance Budget Ammendment = No mare tax cuts - ever again.
