A rally for Kamala Harris in Detroit, Michigan, on Wednesday reportedly ended in disaster with thousands stranded while certain staffers were brought to tears.
According to political scientist Josiah Lippincott, the rally ended with people being unable to find shuttles back to their cars, leaving them stranded.
“Complete chaos after the Detroit Kamala rally. It has been 2.5 hours and people are still unable to find shuttles back to their cars. Campaign staff has no idea what is happening. Rally was held near a UPS delivery center so dozens of trucks are mixed up with the buses. Tempers are high,” he noted.

Depends upon the neighborhood needing to be walked through. There are areas of Detroit I wouldn’t walk through, in fact wouldn’t ride through without an up-armoured Humvee as my vehicle and some troops.

Were the shuttles “short buses”, which would be pertinent to any kaMAla voter? There’s not much room on short buses so I can understand the delays.

It sounds like they paid people to attend but only gave them a ride to the event. They had to find their own way home.

While my pen pal was writing about the airport, I imagine he visited the city proper and probably that’s where he felt uncomfortable. I don’t know how long he stated in each city.
I’ve been through what I guess is the main Detroit airport and as I recall, it seemed rather nice.

Sounds about right. If she hadn't shown up, it would have been pretty bad. But since she showed up, it was a disaster.

There are a lot more parking lots there. Homes, rentals, and businesses wound up vacant all over the city as the population cratered and the old auto money vanished. I was doing some Earth-googling for a particular business address there a few years ago, and found this one storey structure with almost nothing else standing on the block.
A little more only research turned up info that the bar owner had bought his surrounding and demolished them for parking, and probably for security as well. Not a bad longer term investment either.
The area down by the museum was given a major facelift between the time I went there in high school and the late 1990s or early 2000s.
