Trump’s New Running Mate Imperative
WSJ ^ | July 7, 2024 | Editorial Board

Posted on 07/07/2024 7:24:53 PM PDT by BurgessKoch

The need for stability and experience should eliminate the young MAGA-in-a-hurry types like Sen. J.D. Vance or Members of the House.

As the GOP convention nears, and voters focus on the election, the race remains closer than it should be given Mr. Biden’s infirmities. Swing voters still worry about Mr. Trump and the possibility of four more years of turmoil. The former President can help his campaign, and the country, by projecting stability and calm.

We know many readers will think this is impossible, and maybe it is. Yet he showed admirable restraint after the debate last week, letting Democrats implode, until his profane golf-cart outburst.

The opportunity is there to present a reassuring alternative if Mr. Trump wants to take it. And he has a timely opening to send that message with his vice presidential choice in the next week. Now leading in the polls, he doesn’t need an attack-dog VP or someone to rally his core voters. He needs a choice who shows mature judgment and has the ability to appeal to anxious and undecided voters.

Tim Scott is pretty conservative and has that touch of stability that would seem to fill the bill. He would mute the racist crap somewhat they always direct at Trump and, unlike Harris, he can lend gravitas to the ticket

#1. No advice from the WSJ or NR. They have their own agendas, and it ain’t MAGA>

#2. MAGA in a hurry?! MAGA has been percolating since McCain and Romney made it clear that America-First folks’ votes are tolerable but we ourselves are deplorables. They are waiting for a chance to kick us back to the curb.

#3. This is Trump’s last go. His VP is a likely heir apparent if he chooses well. MAGA must outlast Trump.

I thought Burgum was the best choice...then I saw several stories about him, here on FR.

Since I have faith in the source, I shall have to change my choice, and that is:

GOVERNOR GLEN YOUNGKIN.

As President Trump would say...HE, Youngkin, is straight out of Central Casting.

I think he would be great.

Races for president are never about the running mate. Need proof?...

It's always about #1, not #2...

Pun definitely intended.

Dick Cheney.

Fusion ticket. Jimmy Carter. He still has more remaining marbles than Biden.

Tim Scott is a McConnell/Graham lackey.

DJT is smart enough to know that.

Proper analysis.

I have had my fill of Senators turned President.

We are hiring a potential CEO. EXECUTIVE experience is essential...if not in government then in business or industry (like DJT!) or retired military (I like Ike!)

I do like Harriet Hageman, but we need her in the Senate.

There's a lot of excellent candidates like that better serving where they're at: DeSantis in Florida, Cruz in Texas, Paul counterbalancing the turtle in Kentucky, etc.

I'm thinking Tulsi Gabbard who's not currently wrapped up in other responsibilities. Super articulate, an Army officer from a combat theater and thoroughly renounced the Evil Party (Hawaii. Quite a feat!). And a woman who, unlike Harris, could handle the Office's responsibilities with America's interests foremost.

For his running mate, Trump ought to consider Petie Wilson, the last Republican to win two full terms as governor of California. Petie is a conservative in the tradition of Lowell Weicker, Jacob Javits and Clifford Case.

I've been saying Pompeo from the beginning. I read his "Never Give An Inch". It's in your library.

There's a group of Freepers who see CIA....and you can't stop yourself from casting him to the curb. He's much more than a year and a half at the CIA.

“Black women are a lost cause. They are the most hate-filled idiots I’ve ever come across”

agree. From my experience, many black guys are cool as hell and down to earth one on one on the individual level. It’s the herd mentality that gets them in trouble.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders - she’s our Maggie That her in the making. She’s tough, she’s been loyal to Trump since Day One, she has executive experience as a Governor. She’s female and can counter a lot of the advantage that the Dems have with the (brainless) suburban mothers. She is a good person to carry on the MAGA fight in 2028. Her only disadvantage is that her state is a lock for Trump already, but I think that her positives certainly outweigh that one negative.

Dems may concede the election to Trump. Steal House and Senate. Impeach and remove Trump, or eliminate him via FBI setup. Republicans need someone who can step in and continue Trump polices, and be reelected. I have no idea who, but wouldn't be surprised if Trump picks someone no one has thought of.

Outburst? My gosh the media are so pompous and arrogant.

Vance needs to stay in the Senate - If Vance is the pick we face a bruising and costly Senate Race in Ohio that no one is ready for.

Scott also submarined Trumps judicial nomination of Thomas Farr to the bench.

(Turned out though to be a blessing as Farr died recently which would have given another open seat to Biden.)

I still support JD Vance, Tom Fitton, Gen. Michael Flynn, Ben Carson, Victor Davis Hanson, and recently Dr. Michael Savage, the talk show personality/author.
