After enjoying a pandemic-era boom where many a weary northerner packed up and moved to the Sunshine State, the bloom is off the citrus tree, new research suggests.
In 2024, apparently, it’s all about the Carolinas — their coast, their mountains, their more temperate climate and — most importantly — their affordable cost of living, say the moving pros at PODS, who’ve analyzed heaps of customer data to identify the latest trends.
If true, that shows a considerable reversal in just one year. In 2023, Florida practically owned the list of most moved-to cities, with six in the Top 20 and five in the Top 10.

We drive through WV once or twice a year. Absolutely stunning scenery, and the people are so nice! Also, the toll booths have the logo, “Almost Heaven”, so WV has that going for them, too.
Yeah, I live in a tiny rural town outside Charlotte and my house has increase 4X in value since I bought it foreclosed 10 years ago.
People are BEGGING to move in here.
Sort of. IF they would stop building new houses here in western Marion County. Don't people know there are only two roads into Ocala from here? Talk about Houston-like traffic!

Traffic there is a nightmare. There’s still enough crime there and the schools suck. It’s an ok place and all but not an area I could ever see people moving to.
My older sister and her husband move to S Carolina a few years ago after retirement. They had lived in San Diego for almost 40 years.
After retirement they realized that San Diego is not what it used to be, so decided to retire in S Carolina.
Here is the kicker, you ready?
They are leftists Democrats who voted for all the crap that destroyed what they used to like in California. Now they will use the last years of their lives to vote for people and ideas that will destroy S Carolina.
Love my sister, but after 40 years of warning her, she still thinks the same way. It’s not her fault or the Democrats fault, its all those right wing extremists faults.
I asked her a few years ago just before she moved, “Show me one Republican in California that has been a part of screwing up California in the last 20 years?
Yet now you are moving to a state that is ran well, but controlled by Republicans. Why? If Republicans are so bad?
She never responded. Truth is she seldom speaks to me anymore.
Jaw dropping crazy
Trump actually carried the county Fargo is in both in 2016 and 2020, but not by wide margins (he carried the state by more than 2 to 1 both times). The only two counties he lost in 2016 and 2020 have Indian reservations. It’s possible that he lost Fargo city and the remainder of the county put him ahead.
My wife shot me down on WV...too far from the grandkids. I had a WV mountain picked out already. A whole mountain.
But, I have to say, I’m in Charlotte and prices are screaming. As long as the price keeps going up, and homes in our ‘hood are going under contract in a few days...I’m staying right here.
I thought Indian Reservations were treated as separate countries. Why do they get to vote in US elections?

American Indians are US citizens. Why should those living on a reservation have fewer rights than those who don’t live on a reservation?
I thought this meant they were separate countries. But in reality it is some sort of limbo definition where the Indians get to act as a separate nation when it helps them, and then act as US citizens when that is beneficial to them.

The timing for this article is just perfect. If it had come out a month ago I doubt I could have posted a reply. But I’m over dengue fever and my malaria is under control now. I have more time now that my wife has learned to walk on her prosthetic leg she received after the incident with gator. Besides the recovery from some health issues we’re in better spirits now that we have finely gotten over the loss of our beloved dog, Scruffy, to the python. It was much harder to bounce back from than losing a cat or two...or five to a python or rattler. One thing is the pythons tend to keep the number of monitor lizards down.
With the weather being so hot, humid and oppressive I’m inside a lot and have more time to post. (I like AC and I sure wish they could keep the power on more than a few hours a day here.) But we have a big screened in lanai and its shaded. It keeps the swarms of mosquitoes at bay- for the most part- and I just use the leaf blower when the fire ants breach the door. Fortunately most of the fire ants are too large to get past the door sweep.
I would go to the beach, but it’s killer white tiger hammerhead shark season and swimming carries a few risks with the oozing sores I have on my legs from gardening. Other than humans I don’t know what they eat, but I think they may follow the poisonous jellyfish in from deeper water this time of year. BTW, the things you hear about flesh eating microbes in the water aren’t true...well not entirely anyway.
I live in one of the nicer neighborhoods in SW Florida. It’s a gated community, so we rarely get a naked, meth crazed, knifing wielding “Florida Man” holding anyone hostage. And when it happens the sheriff’s office responds quickly and has some pretty good snipers, so most of the time it only a short nuisance event.
So back to my reason for posting. Florida is not for everyone. It offers a lot of freedoms, unless you say “gay”. People are pretty tolerant here and I guess that is why there are so many white supremacists of all creeds and colors. But hurricane season is rough and many people will not want to live with the 50% chance each year of being swept out to sea in a storm surge. So my recommendation is for people to STAY AWAY from Florida and consider states further north if they want sun, surf and safety.
