Feminism has left middle-aged women like me single, childless and depressed
The Telegraph ^ | 25 April 2024 | Petronella Wyatt

I increasingly feel that feminism has failed my generation. It is a peculiarity of the West that it is divided into sets which differ profoundly in their beliefs. This state of affairs began with the Reformation and has grown more pronounced ever since. There were Protestants and Catholics who differed fundamentally not only on faith but on practical matters. It was among Protestant communities that feminism first emerged, and it is in Protestant countries such as America and Britain in which feminist beliefs have been at their most vocal and strident in tone, like a religion with no dilution of agnosticism. Margaret Thatcher, though she would have denied it, was a feminist de facto, and no Catholic country could have produced her like.

. . .

Where, for instance, does it leave women like me, when we have reached the age of 54, as I have, and find ourselves both single and childless? Hugging the collected works of Proust, or engaging in furtive sojourns to the pub that bring remembrances of things pissed? One in 10 British women in their 50s have never married and live alone, which is neither pleasant nor healthy.

More and more women are starting to get it . . . too late.

Having stuff and people to boss around is not as important as having family who genuinely love you. Who knew?

Feminism was one of the most damaging parts of the 20th century. I see absolutely nothing good in it, and the damage just goes on and on.

The lament of the feminazi Karens. Their pathology has baked millions and they deserve to die alone.

“Feminism” a stolen concept. “Gay” a stolen concept.

Between 2000 and 2004, the author Petronella Wyatt had an affair with the then editor of The Spectator and Conservative MP Boris Johnson. Johnson had promised to leave his wife, and the affair had resulted in a terminated pregnancy and a miscarriage. When her mother found out about the affair, she discussed it with the press. Johnson was fired from his shadow cabinet post by party leader Michael Howard for lying about the affair, after he had initially categorically denied it.

One does not "sojourn" to anywhere. A sojourn is a (usually lengthy) stay in or at somewhere.

The authoress is apparently confusing "sojourn" with "journey."

The author had an affair with Boris Johnson while he was on wife number 2 that led to an abortion and a miscarriage.

She forgot to add, and Western Civilization is eroding because of it, and it's mostly her/their fault.

Feminism’s only template is that of the men they are taught to hate; feminists become bullies.

Feminism is a Communist pogrom.

Petronella "Petsy" Aspasia Wyatt (born 6 May 1968) is a British journalist and author. [...] Wyatt left the university within weeks of her first term, after, she says, suffering persistent bullying and harassment due to her father's position as friend of and political advisor to Conservative prime minister Margaret Thatcher. [...] In 1996, when interviewing the proposed Labour Minister for Women Janet Anderson, Anderson joked that "under Labour, women will become more promiscuous", which Wyatt reported as policy. Denis Healey regretted at the close of an interview with Wyatt that there was no time left for "rumpy pumpy." [...] Between 2000 and 2004, Wyatt had an affair with the then editor of The Spectator and Conservative MP Boris Johnson.

How many marriages has feminism disrupted, interrupted and corrupted? It’s a shame that there became a need for organizations like the American Divorce Association for Men (ADAM). I don’t think feminism caused it all but it sure seems to have had a significant role in it.

“I increasingly feel that feminism has failed my generation.”

Well duh. I’m still resentful that the movement dragged all of us women down, even those of us who never bought into it.

It was too strong, too ubiquitous, to allow us to stand on the sidelines and ignore it.

It gave employers permission to pay husbands/fathers less, and they couldn’t afford to support a family as they had in the past. So even the families who weren’t pro feminism suffered.

They blame the Protestants? I blame the marxists. Destroying the nuclear family unit is ab big win for them.

Gee, ya think? Its a real shame you didn’t figure this out in the early to mid 1990s.

The West’s marriage rate and birth rates have declined - as has people’s self reported happiness. This is especially true for THE unhappiest demographic of all according to self reporting...childless middle aged unmarried females.

This is the true legacy of 3rd wave feminism.

My own mother tried to sell me that feminist line. I figured out for myself it was a complete lie.

I think not. She was wearing her “smart glasses” when she made that remark.

This woman has been a pain in the ass. I can imagine the eye rolling when she appears. And still blaming someone else for her short comings. What an idiot.

True. But using this French-derived highfalutin word makes her sound so smart. That's the point, isn't it?
