ABC’s Modern Family actor Ed O’Neill says he plans to give back his honorary doctorate degree to Youngstown State University in protest of the school hiring former Republican congressman Bill Johnson as its new president.
“I was so disappointed when I heard about this decision,” O’Neill told MSNBC. “He’s a polarizing guy, an election denier. He’s not the biggest fan of the gay community. He’s anti-choice. He’s just a polarizing, far right-wing fanatical guy.”
O’Neill, who is from Youngstown, Ohio, also criticized Johnson for supporting former President Donald Trump after the 45th president was indicted, saying, “It’s crazy.”

And yes, I am a bit surprised by his politics.
He was on track to play for the Steelers when he got hurt.
In an alternate universe, he could have been a part of those teams in the '70s that won 4 Super Bowls.
Anyone who plays at that level *usually* leans somewhat conservative.

The series aired on ABC from 2003 to 2004 and was a reboot of the classic “Dragnet” series that ran from 1951 to 1970 as well as another reboot in 1989. After a 12-episode season that followed the traditional formula, the format of the series was changed to an ensemble crime drama in an attempt to boost ratings. In “L.A. Dragnet,” Friday was promoted to lieutenant with less screen time and Frank Smith was written out, in favor of a younger and ethnically diverse cast played by Eva Longoria, Desmond Harrington, Evan Dexter Parke, and Christina Chang.
Really...stop watching TV, and movies, and going to concerts...these people are “entertainers”. They shouldn’t occupy 1 second of our serious thoughts. When they decide to actually “do” something (not just lend a publicity helping hand) to help someone for a while, then maybe they can be heard.
Until then...cut em out of the social conversation.

The show ended three years ago....but maybe he is playing the reboot angle.
