HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A large U.S. Navy aircraft ended up in shallow waters of Kaneohe Bay on Monday afternoon after overshooting the runway at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

The incident happened about 2 p.m. and the large plane could be partially submerged in shallow waters. Sources said the aircraft had nine people on board and all of them made it to shore.

Injuries were reported to be minor, but that could not be independently confirmed.

The runway is 7772 feet at 23 feet above sea level.

That is 1.37 miles long.

But, I just looked at the runways at Portland International Jetport in Portland, Maine. It is 1.4 miles long.

Al Quiring could get the job done. Although it may take a minute to ship big green to the job site.

No need to wrap an FSCB around the fuselage, as there is no fuel in it.

I’ll bet it waterplaned a bit before sinking to the bottom.

Maybe that’s why the brakes failed to stop it on the runway: too much standing water on the tarmac.

Can engine reversal only halt a plane??

Look at the lighthouse there.

It's pictured on the walls of Red Lobster.

The FSCB is to maintain a permieter for leaking fuel. The drape over the front is to allow better access to the cockpit area, but the drape will also create a small gap or two from which fuel can more easily leak through.

No need to wrap an FSCB around the fuselage, as there is no fuel in it.

The fuel was on the surface of the water. The containment boom looks positioned to keep the fuel contained around the plane but to also keep clear access to the cockpit from the outside.

I doubt there was any fuel leak at all.

Seems like our military is sloppy and unprepared anymore.

Seems like it would be a good idea not to get involved in all these wars when you aren’t fine tuned.

It is one thing to get killed by a combatant, quite another to be killed by sloppy mistakes due to poor training and lack of competent maintenance.

“The pilot probably didn’t put the plane down exactly where he wanted to on the runway,” Forman said.

Ya think?

The military quickly surrounded the crash site with booms to keep any leaked fuel from spreading, but did not offer any assessment of the environmental damage.
