Biden admin’s latest home appliance crackdown: ceiling fans

Ceiling fans are now the latest target in the Biden administration’s green agenda, sparking pushback from Republicans and manufacturers.

The Department of Energy is proposing a rule that would require ceiling fans to be more energy efficient, arguing the move would save U.S. households on energy costs.

According to the Energy Department’s analysis, the new rules would save households about $39 over the lifespan of the new energy-efficient fan.

However, the cost to manufacturers associated with the increased equipment will total $86.6 million per year, the department said.

Republicans on the House Committee on Small Business say if the rule goes into effect it could put small manufacturers out of business, given the costs the companies would incur in order to comply with the changes.

“This rule would require numerous small business fan manufacturers to redesign their products and may put between 10 and 30 percent of small business ceiling fan manufacturers out of business,” the GOP members of the committee wrote in a letter to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Thursday. “It appears that the Department of Energy (DOE) may not have properly considered small entities during this rulemaking process.”

The Energy Department has been on the warpath to impose more stringent regulations on household appliances for the past several months, proposing new standards for gas stoves, ovens, washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, dishwashers, and other essentials as part of its mission to advance energy efficiency and conservation.

On his first day in office in January 2021, President Biden signed an executive order requiring the Energy Department to make “major revisions” to current appliance regulation standards and standards set by the Trump administration.

Next they will mandate 12’ ceiling height, draft windows above doors, and hand drawn water, you know like in 1890!
Screen windows and doors too!!
Everything old is new again. Like electric cars, started selling them in the early 1900’s.
I’m seeing a pattern here. Outhouses are very energy efficient, they actually use no power at all! Candles can be used for night “operations”.
Somebody send these idiots back to the time warp they came from, please!

Mine identifies as a lamp-shade.

If the government is soooo concerned with saving us money, why don’t they just stop making us pay for their proxy wars and creepy fetishes instead of ruining our home appliances?

Luckily, I’m a few steps ahead of Brandon on this one. I just installed a new ceiling fan in the bedroom, and I have another one that’s going up in the guest bedroom.

99% of the energy wasted with a ceiling fan is that people forget to change the direction of the blades be it cooling or heating season.

NOTE:

“A ceiling fan should rotate COUNTERCLOCKWISE in the SUMMER, so the blades push cooler air down in a column. This is the best ceiling fan direction for air conditioning since it makes the air feel cooler than it is. It allows you to turn your thermostat up a few degrees.

Ceiling fan direction in the WINTER should be CLOCKWISE, and the fan should run at the lowest speed. This pulls cool air up toward the ceiling, which in turn displaces the warm air that rises and collects near the ceiling.”

It ain’t Rocket Science! Maybe Brandon’s ‘Committee of Dumb@sses’ could take a trip to the Home Depot to learn a thing or two? *SNORT*

Soon, instead of running water, we will have to line up to draw water from the local river using government provided earthen pots.

This is so stupid that the people behind it know it is complete BS. The use of fans, especially ceiling fans in the home, REDUCES the need/use of air conditioning.

I’m sure the USA crop of elites are worried how they will be able to survive without gas to run their limos or fly their private jets, without gas to heat or cook, without electricity to run their AC units to cool their 20,000 sq ft mansions or even enough electricity to run their ceiling fans ... oh wait ... I’ve assumed they are under the same government edicts us smelly Walmart shopper are under ... of course they’re not.

I gots to go start up my 10 year old 420hp pickup, let it warmup while I crank up my central air, fire up my gas stove to cook dinner, run my dishwasher to clean my dishes, with hot water provided by my gas heater, and make sure all my ceiling fans are running properly.

Come and get me.......

Let’s see. Our ceiling fan is about 15 years old and going strong, so let’s say $2 a year savings for lower air circulation?

My 3 fans are 40 years old. Oh, the things I could accomplish with an extra $3 per year!

Idiots. We're surrounded by idiots.

Which will guarantee they will look like this.

So about the price of a fancy cake.

How long to they consider the "lifetime" of a fan?

And I now have to revive an old tag line.

The giant fans on stilts aren’t very energy efficient— maybe they can be banned?
