Poll: Donald Trump Surges to 62 Percent; Ron DeSantis Crashes to 16 Percent
Breitbart ^ | 27 Apr 2023 | WENDELL HUSEBØ

Former President Donald Trump has surged to 62 percent support in April among Republican primary voters, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has crashed to 16 percent, Emerson College polling trends show.

Since January, Trump has gained 20 points over DeSantis, when the former president held 55 percent of GOP support, with DeSantis at 29 percent support, a 26-point spread.

In February, Trump gained four points over DeSantis for a 30-point advantage. Trump’s support remained constant with 55 percent support, while DeSantis’s dropped four points to 25 percent.

In April, Trump surged 16 points from February over Desantis to a 46-point advantage. Trump’s support increased by seven points to 62 percent, while DeSantis’s plunged nine points to 16 percent.

According to the Emerson data, Trump’s GOP support remained mostly consistent throughout January and February, while DeSantis’s slightly dropped. The drastic separation between the two presidential hopefuls began after news of the Trump indictment broke on March 31. A few days later, Trump was arraigned in New York City.

Following the indictment, Trump’s polling numbers soared to 46 points over DeSantis’s. Trump’s dominance was somewhat at DeSantis’s expense. DeSantis lost nine points of support, while Trump’s support grew seven points, a nearly inverse correlation.

The data suggests the indictment has united the Republican Party behind the former president. Trump has appeared to galvanize support by harnessing the seemingly endless far-left attacks against him that have continued even after his presidency.

In one sentence on his Truth Social bio, Trump neatly packages those attacks into a call for support.

“THEY’RE NOT COMING AFTER ME, THEY’RE COMING AFTER YOU—I’M JUST STANDING IN THEIR WAY!” it reads.

DeSantis is merely greasing the rails for 2028.

If RDS does, legally, run in 2024, those rails he's greasing will take him all the way to Jacksonville in 2028.

RD could kick major ass if he’d just wait until 2028. Really. I just have a feeling he might think the same way a bit, but is being prodded by Lincoln Project, Rove, Bushes, etc. If he runs in ‘24, he’s committing political suicide.

Nothing aside from being thrown in jail by a political assassin keeps him from being the guy. People who hate him hate him already. There is nothing he can do or say realistically that sidetracks him. One would think the RDS bashing from him wouldve weakened his hold on the nomination…. But this doesnt seem like the case at all. Looks like folks are abondoning Ron. 😂

DeSantis on the national stage is a Bush-Cheney puppet becaose he doesn’t have money that doesn’t come the MIC. How this guy wins the primaries other than more fraud is impossible. What was the name of the Mailman’s Son Governor of Ohio who boycotted the GOP 2016 convention in his own state? One of the best political failures ever. No offense to mailmen, it’s a needed job, but that guy was a nobody.

I agree. Unless they handcuff him and throw him in jail, I think it’s a done deal (I know they will probably try). I don’t have a strong opinion on Ron D. and question why he isn’t staying as governor of Florida. If I recall correctly (and I may be wrong), didn’t he say he was staying in Florida as governor and implied he had no interest in the presidency? I have been known to be an airhead, so maybe I am wrong. Also, I have not forgotten the injuries these swamp creatures inflicted on innocent people during and after Trump’s term - private citizens and elected officials. It is a disgrace. Am I angry, and some small part of me wants revenge? You bet, and that is my shortcoming. Ultimately, however, I want all the wrongs corrected as much as possible. There is too much corruption, which will worsen for everyone if not checked. Hopefully, Providence will spare us, but that’s up to Him.

Pity, really. DeSantis ran positive ads about himself. Trump ran attack ads on DeSantis. But I’m still with Trump. He’s going to have to fight, so he’s showing that he will fight.

So, it’s all Trump’s fault?

DeSantis was Trump’s practice opponent. He’s still a good governor, and he’ll still be a contender in 2028. So no harm done. He just ripped him a new one, and the band played on.

Ron DeSantis could probably coast to the 2028 nomination.

Probably because Trump will lose to Biden in 2024. The country will be desperate for DeSantis in 2028.

The Dem gamble is that Biden can only beat Trump, thus infuriating the GOP base with legal attacks on Trump.

Trump can’t beat Biden.

Sure seems that way; Trump is stuck at around 45% or so; he has alienated far too many voters to win.

Sure seems that way; Trump is stuck at around 45% or so;

Suddenly, we’re believing polls again, despite consistent chicanery.

he has alienated far too many voters to win.

Which demographic was “alienated”? The only voters “alienated” by Trump were opposed to him from the getgo.

“Trump can’t beat Biden.”

He already did in 2020. He’ll do it again big-time in 2024.

I know there’s likely no chance in he!! but I’m pretty impressed with Vivek Ramaswamy. Every bit as conservative as DT, brilliant and much less a public loose cannon.
