Mexican president to US: Fentanyl is your problem
AP ^ | March 9, 2023 | MARK STEVENSON

Posted on 03/09/2023 6:25:51 PM PST by McGruff

Mexico’s president said Thursday that his country does not produce or consume fentanyl, despite enormous evidence to the contrary.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador appeared to depict the synthetic opioid epidemic largely as a U.S. problem, and said the United States should use family values to fight drug addiction.

His statement came during a visit to Mexico by Liz Sherwood-Randall, the White House homeland security adviser, to discuss the fentanyl crisis. It also comes amid calls by some U.S. Republicans to use the U.S. military to attack drug labs in Mexico.

The Mexican government has acknowledged in the past that fentanyl is produced at labs in Mexico using precursor chemicals imported from China. Fentanyl has been blamed for about 70,000 opioid deaths per year in the United States.

Let me add two more preposterous items to your one.

It’s “preposterous” to just do nothing.

Here’s just 5 comparison facts militarily between the US and Mexico:

Fighter/Aircraft 1,914 to 3
Airpower (# of Aircraft) 13,300 to 468
Military Budget 761 billion to 6.5 billion
Air Transport 962 to 46
Aerial Tankers 568 to 0

So, another “preposterous” fact is that there can never be a WAR with Mexico. There CAN BE a few battles but NOT WAR.

We need to apply some limited use of force (Israel could teach us a few things about that.). The Narco State Mexico is killing tens of thousands of our citizens each year...with intent and costing US taxpayers tens of billions of dollars. Doing “NOTHING” is just not an option.

"A war with Mexico will not get us anything. It’s preposterous."

A war with Mexican cartels is likely have a much more positive outcomes than a war with Russia 5000 miles away overseas to save the Ukrainian crooks.

Well, he’s not wrong as far as it is our problem. Shut down the damn border. Let’s let the drug addicts die, stop reviving them, they want to die anyway, let God sort them out.
I was prepared to allow my son to go down this path, but for the grace of God he is now drug free.

What would you call heavily arming international criminal syndicates in a foreign country when that country is in a death struggle with those syndicates?

It goes beyond Fast and Furious assault rifles to include grenades, RPGs, shoulder fired rockets, anti-aircraft guns, night vision equipment, body armor and special deals to bring their drugs onto our soil with legal impunity?

When you have the DEA and FBI assisting the rip crew that killed BP Agent Brian Terry with their approval to attack and kill a rival cartel's smuggling crew?

Going to be hard to fight drug cartels when the DEA helps to launder millions of dollars for them by setting up bank accounts for them that they otherwise couldn't do.

That all sounds a lot like what a state sponsor of terrorism would do to foreign countries.

He's right.

If Americans lack the will to keep the US borders closed and to prevent drug pushers from preying on them, it's the Americans' fault--and nobody else's.

A nation that can put a man on the moon can figure out how to keep foreign drugs from poisoning its population.

If Americans are too decadent to care, they can blame nobody and nothing but themselves.

I am always interested to learn how other FReepers think on threads like this.

I generally like all of us and always have.

I suppose “keeping foreign drugs from poisoning our population” is a little like “keeping guns from shooting people.”

We’ve got to just take them away, or have other nations do it for us?

Sadly, many will die.

It is, however, death by suicide.

That’s my view at this moment, anyway.

Here’s to those who turn away from drugs altogether.

Then close the borders, warn and then capture or shoot illegals, send them back to Mexico, and then Mexico can be the sanctuary country they claim they are. If they are not on this side of the border, they aren’t our problem either. Possession is nine tenths of the law.

Instead of sending them to Martha’s Vineyard, which the US folks there hate, turn the busses south and send them to the states of Tamaulipas, Leon, Chihuahua, and Coahuila.

Problem solved. (At least ours)

We can't do anything about it right now because Joe Biden is our President. And he's more focused on the war in Ukraine.

Anyway, I would order a raid on the labs where they are manufacturing fentanyl. Take out a bunch of cartel thugs. Then tell Obrador that we will be back if he does not clean up his act.

“Tough guy”, huh?
American organized crime would have made an example of him.
What does the US do now? Fall to their knees and say “kick some more sand in my eyes. I deserve it.”?

Chinese and Mexicans, Central Americans and Latin Americans (by whatever cheesy names they expect us to call them) are killing Americans with fentanyl at the rate of one person in America every 8.57 minutes, killing 175 people every single day.
Latest figure available: synthetic opioids other than methadone (primarily fentanyl) continued to rise with 70,601 overdose deaths reported in 2021.

That is far more than Covid deaths and World Trade Center and combat deaths.
