Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) signed legislation Wednesday night banning commonly owned semiautomatic rifles and magazines which Democrats consider “high capacity.”
The law took effect immediately with Pritzker’s signature. It allows those who already own the now-banned firearms to retain them, but requires that the owners register the guns with the Illinois State Police.
Pritzker’s office released a statement upon his signing of the bill. It said, in part, “The new law also requires existing owners of semi-automatic rifles to register their ownership, ensuring that law enforcement knows the location of these weapons of war and who to hold accountable if they fall into the wrong hands.”

Waiting for the first enforcement officer who tries to seize someone’s semi-auto to be shot...
Drug dealers shall be granted waivers.
And they make up and define the “police power” as they go. That’s how they held out so long on concealed carry making illannoy the last such state. It took a court order from the 7th circuit to end that nonsense. Incidentally, the current 7th has 10 republican vs 5 democrat appointees in case this turd of a ban gets that far from district court.
‘A Republic, if you can keep it’
Agree! I’m just hopefully waiting for the first court to apply to to a semi-auto rifle ban.
Thank you for sharing that.
And to think, back in 1962-1984 the Democrats said “RIFLES WILL NOT BE AFFECTED!” with each anti-gun proposal they made.
Then they realized rifles were fair game for bans after all!
“ensuring that law enforcement knows the location of these weapons of war”
Bottom of a lake, Sir. Nasty boating accident.
Fear the government that fears your gun.
None of this will end well.
It’s amazing how often these idiots fail to understand that nothing in the new law prevents a registered owner from legally traveling to a friendlier state and “selling the gun”. If a registered owner makes the claim he disposed of it legally nothing in Illinois law can force the registered owner to discuss a legal process from another state.
The fifth amendment rights enable someone to simply let the state assume he abided by another states laws and Illinois has no business knowing more.
I can understand why the NRA/Republicans didn’t want to fight the AWB in the 90 after it passed. Too risky. But now is the time to fight it, all out.
No sunset and the tide is on the good side. Need to lump several states together though, only reason to wait is to make all the rotten states pass their stupid laws and then tear them down federally.
These laws are all “virtue signaling” trying to show they are doing something about crime when in reality they are releasing criminals in record time, Illinois and and other jurisdiction that enacts laws like this will be overturned

Note the mayor’s statement @ the link, connecting Constitutional gun ownership to terrorism.
Now, I don’t know if the mayor’s attack on our rights is generated by a desire for power, or by fear. But I do know that between desire for power and fear, more tyranny is born of fear.
The demonicrat voters of Illinois deserve everything they get.
I don’t know how far south in Illinois your relatives live, but the part of Illinois south of about U.S. 50 was once known as Egypt (or Little Egypt).
Ignore it.
The Democommie doesn’t overrule the Constitution.
On some news report it was stated 9 other states have similar bans?
Yeah, but the Conservative voters (majority of IL counties) fall under this crap too.
Y’all don’t know the addresses of the folks that VOTED for this?
Right behind my door
