In 2021, the two largest teachers’ unions in the country collected over half a billion dollars from their members, and almost all of their political spending went to leftist causes.
While 57 percent of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA) membership is either Republican or independent, nearly 100 percent of political spending of the $575 million in dues was funneled into far-left politics.

Teachers’ unions are a fundraising arm of the Democrat party and teachers keep their mouths shut as long as they keep getting benefits increases. I blame both for the lackluster educational results and the leftist indoctrination that is harming kids and our nation.

I agree with you. You might get to 57% if you combine the 20% Republicans with the 37% Independents (who lean Democratic...)
Possible, a high percentage of union rank-n-file vote Republican, but the leadership definitely does not.
This also could be a function of many state educational establishments being a “closed shop” - To teach you have to be in the teacher’s union .
I taught for many years in an inner city school district. And that 57% sounds about right. It’s probably more in the wealthier suburbs.
The problem is that the union bosses are all leftists, and they have a Soviet-style grip on the union election process. Local voting was always done by slate. And the “approved” slate always wins. Always. Draw your own conclusions there.
There is no rank-and-file voting for state or national officers. Those folks are chosen at conventions. Convention delegates are chosen by slate voting. Same deal as before.
Unions preach democracy. But they are as undemocratic as can be.

I find this very hard to believe.
With indies.....Maybe not so much.
And the morons do nothing about it.
There is no way in hell 59.00% of school teachers are
Republican or Independents.
The Left runs things and has full power to keep it that way.
Just review what they have done to our schools and tell me
again how the majority are Republicans and Independents.
Please take a look at my post #6. To which I’d add: I taught in an urban high school. As a rough estimate, my fellow teachers were probably 1/3 Republican, 1/3 Independent, and 1/3 Democrat.
I will say that the I’s probably leaned more Democrat than Republican.
Now, that’s in a high school. The middle schools would have a higher fraction of Democrats. And the elementary schools higher still.

Brother in law is a lawyer here in Florida.
