Amazon employees at an important distribution hub in Joliet walked off the job Tuesday, calling attention to their demands for higher pay and new workplace safety rules.
The walkout by some employees on the day shift was timed to disrupt the retailer’s operations during its Prime Day promotion, which lasts Tuesday and Wednesday. It was part of a national pressure campaign, supported by pro-labor groups, that included job actions near Atlanta and a walkout planned Friday in San Bernardino, California.
Organizers said more than 600 workers in Joliet signed a petition demanding that the company raise base hourly wages to $25. Amazon has said it has raised average starting pay for warehouse staff to $19 an hour. The workers also are demanding a more robust company response to death threats directed at Black employees that they said were posted in an employee washroom last May.
Cesar Escutia, a warehouse associate for about three months at Amazon, said a manager was dismissive about the threats despite widespread employee concerns. Escutia also said his hourly wage is $18.50.

“The workers also are demanding a more robust company response to death threats directed at Black employees that they said were posted in an employee washroom last May.”
98 percent chance it was a black employee.
Yeah...rail strike is on the menu, right before Christmas, but after election
How about Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaug. It’s in Webster, MA. Supposed meaning of the word: “You fish on your side, I’ll fish on my side, and nobody fish in the middle”!
You can’t call the cops on him, man. He just got out of Jo-lee-yet.
Is Cesar Escutia an illegal alien? Just curious. 😋
I personally like “Les Trois Tétons” in Wyoming. How long until the park service changes the name?
Wear the fox-hat?
“$20 an hour for pushing boxes around or packing? “
and they still get the orders wrong. My GF orders from these clowns but nothing beats the idiocy of Walmart online orders. MOST of the orders are either late or wrong.

Is there a police report for that, I wonder...
I’m sick and tired of high school drop outs with zero skills thinking they need CEO pay.
Aww, work safety issues. There are no metal detectors at the grocery store, at Walmart, the nail salon, Mickey D’s or anywhere else they frequent except maybe the police station. But, hey, they’re still free to find another job if they don’t like the one they have.
Amazon is amazing. My whole family shares our Prime account. We’ve made thousands of orders over twenty years (maybe more) and have never gotten the wrong item. Most things arrive in one to three days. I’ve had two crooked merchants send me a counterfeit hard drive and a used battery operated vacuum cleaner (sold as new), so the biggest complaint I have is Amazon doesn’t police their merchants good enough. The hard drive went back for a fast refund. They told me to keep the vacuum and sent me a brand new one, so I got one for upstairs and one for downstairs.
The operation is truly amazing for speed, accuracy, and great service. Whenever I have to call them on the phone, they check my purchase record and thank me for being such a loyal customer and always take care of me.
Wasn’t it just yesterday that the fast food people wanted to go from $10 to $15 and hour? Now they are all blowing through that to $25. What a mess.
Any wonder why a small burger meal at one of these joints costs $12?
I pronounce "Chicago" like this: SHIT-Cago.
And now I know why the central air conditioning cover I ordered on Monday wasn't delivered. ASSHOLES.
RNs don’t make those wages and they save peoples lives
These are box tossers
Only $12 by you? Average $16-$18 here.
Oh puhleeze
High pressure jobs? Most of these panty waists are slackers. They ain’t on the battle field or in the PD or an ICU nurse. Those are high pressure jobs
Yeah it’s BS. My daughter is an RN and recently got her first job. Making 27 an hour to start, and that is of course after years of schooling. It was intense, especially dealing with the workarounds through the pandemic. I don’t for one second believe fast food or warehouse workers should be making close to the same amount of money as those who put in the time, effort, and cash to get where they are in filling an important position.
I pronounce “Chicago” like this:
