Hurricane Ian
NHC/NOAA ^ | 23 September 2022 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2022 2:32:24 AM PDT by NautiNurse

The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

I love the Keys…and a lot of it is because of that attitude.

People often seem to not want to think for themselves any more. They do whatever the “authorities” tell them, from getting an ineffective “vaccine” to heeding warnings. It would be nice if the weather people, especially on the weather channel, would just give the facts, the probabilities, all the information, and let people just decide based on that.

But of course, they don’t teach people to think for themselves any more, and in fact, want everyone to do whatever their masters in the government tell them to do. Not saying everyone is like that, of course, but it is more and more common. Look how many people parrot the “carbon is bad” narrative, with no really substantial evidence to back it. They just say its settled science and carry on.

Anyway, my rant is getting away from the weather situation. Lots of people will be looking at some horrible conditions in areas like Ft Myers, while people along the Atlantic coast prepare to endure whatever a reconstituted hurricane might bring them.

Me, in eastern Tennessee, I’m just hoping for a little bit of rain (my sister offered me all the rain I want from Jacksonville).

Glad you are back home, FRiend! Amazed you have electricity… we’re happy to hear that. Sounds like your home didn’t sustain any damage. Sorry about your beautiful trees though…. 😕

Thanks for that post… Still haven’t heard from our Venice friends. I don’t think they have Verizon or AT&T… assuming they can’t get cell service still.

St Augustine is getting hammered by Ian but they have a terrible water system and always has flooding problems. Family members work takes him there and requires he knows the terrain etc. so he knows it has often issues with water. Add a Hurricaane and it's going to be bad.

I got a text from my relatives about 1030 or so this morning. Some street flooding seems to be the biggest issue now in regards to mobility. Damage to some pool cages/screens but most houses, at least they are, which is all new construction are relatively intact with no major damage. Verizon service is nonexistent in their part of Venice but can get through via text and AT&T by borrowing a neighbors phone.

I have noticed that, too.

As a meteorologist, I have no use for the likes of Cantore who sensationalize everything. It gives the NWS and meteorologists a bad name and is what causes people to not take them seriously.

I’m not a meteorologist, but can’t stand him. People had posted a couple good YouTube streams earlier on awesome guys basically in their basement with a network of cameras showing the current conditions along with radar indicating where the storm is moving, etc. It was much more useful without the sensationalized reporting.

Oh my gosh. I know exactly what you are talking about! Did you hear that the Pine Island bridge is also out? And Lovers Key..... So hope we can someday shell there. Stunned about Sanibel. It is my place. I enjoy my beach walks and shelling especially on Bowmans. Now I’m wondering what the shoreline is going look like.

You know, I realize this is the internet and all that entails, but when this is over we should meet up at Parrot Key for a drink to celebrate life!

I suspect even the houses that are still standing have so much water damage, they’ll have to be torn down.

Exactly, I would never watch any news network for weather anymore, they all have an agenda.
